Hello,
I'm working on a series of videos, and need some recommendations for minimal music to lay in for soundtracks. In past videos I have used Philip Glass of course, and Stars of the Lid. The content is Science and technology, so the music needs to fit that to some degree, but there are different parts that will require different moods.

thanks!

I have the perfect soundtrack for you; "Solaris" by Cliff Martinez. Its super minimal, was used for a sci-fi film and, its a brilliant soundtrack.

Let me know if that works.

you mentioned Phillip Glass...the Hours score is pretty great. Philip Sheppard-In the Shadow of the Moon score is fantastic, pretty minimal and maybe check out some John Adams. Good Luck!

If you plan on doing anything commercial with your videos you're going to have to think about the music rights. Even nonprofit videos on youtube with non rights cleared music can get pulled.

if you say "screw rights" I think Akhnaten by Glass is very spacey. Also look into some Steve Reich, some John Cage, and some Arvo Part. You don't need warbling square waves to sound spacey, after all. Too much of the SF thing can get hokey.

Throw in some SND , Murcof , Autechre , Farben , Fennesz or Various Artists on the Raster Noton Label.

I can't remember hearing any of Morton Feldman's music in a film. I'm sure there's something that could be of use.

Something by Tangerine Dream?

I agree with the Solaris soundtrack, along with a few tracks from the Sunshine OST for a similar feel.

My suggestion would be Brian Eno: Atmospheres & Soundtracks.

Was listening to A Setting Sun - Empty Sound yesterday and the thought was it would suit some artistic purpose. Check it out

How about Brian Eno-Music for Films?
