Clip version and Rockbox

Thread Starter
I know this has been discussed to death, but a search revealed no specific answers.

How do I find what version my clip is?
And where do I get Rockbox for that version? I did not see an official release, but people have done it, right?
Also, what versions will rockbox work for?

Thanks and sorry if the questions are redundant,
Nkk

version is in Settings -> System Info.

I don't know the status of Rockbox with the clip, tbh. I think people have tried it, but last I heard it wasn't quite ready for prime time, as I understood it.

I think there are a couple of ways to find out which version clip you have, you go to settings - system info and under version you will see a number, it will start with V01 or V02. I also read that you can tell from the back of the device, if you see the Sanas flower icon, then it is version 2, and version 1 has the sandisk logo:

Sandisk has a bad habit of putting any version board in any version housing, so, you should always check the firmware version.

As others have said, if the firmware starts with V02 it's 2nd generation.

The rockbox on the 1st generation clip is not ready yet. If you're ok with the fact that it might not work perfectly, may potentially corrupt your files and require you to reboot into the sansa firmware so you can reformat and reload, and ok with the fact that members of the rockbox community generally won't help you out with that, you can download the rockbox source code, compile it yourself, compile the install tools, and install it.

In general, if compiling rockbox isn't something you're immediately comfortable with, running rockbox on targets that are unreleased maybe isn't for you.

Work on 2nd generation AMS sansas hasn't really begun in earnest yet. The differences may turn out to be subtle, but we just don't know yet.

Thank you.

I guess I have to wait, as I have V02.

Thanks again,
