STX QUESTION

This is my setup at present
WINAMP(KS PLUGIN)>
ASUS DX>
PROJECT HEADBOX MK2>
ATH A700

My question is this?
I have just bought the ASUS STX after reading the mostly positive feedback from this excellent FORUM.
I would like to continue to use the HEADBOX as my volume control as i prefer to have a physical means of adjustment as opposed to a SOFTWARE one.
I realise the STX can drive these headphones and any other adequately.
As i want the best possible sound quality from my setup will the HEADBOX degrade the sound quality of the system in any way?

you could try volumouse, it beats any volume knob in my book

and don't worry about ppl saying that software volume control is evil...as long as you are using a bit-perfect audio renderer and use the master volume you're safe. the master volume is ALWAYS hardware accelerated, it's KMixer that kills the dynamics.

there's no rule in audio, both xbitlabs.com in their STX review and several members here find the headphones output to sound better on their external amp than the lineout.

Sure you can use your external amp, just connect up your line out to your headphone amplfier. You can compare the sound quality of the internal headphone amp to your external unit. Just use what sounds the best to you.
