Shootout: 114 Portable Headphones Reviewed (Xiaomi Mi Headphones added 04/21/2015) - Page 65

Thanks for this epic review thread. It gave me the impetus to finally buy some HD 25-1 II's to replace my PXC 300's. I haven't tried them yet on a flight, but they sound great at home. For the first time I can appreciate the different characteristics when I compare them to my Audio Tehnica ATH-A900's as well. Changing headphones is a good way to rediscover your music - stuff you've got tired of with one set of headphones needs to be tried again with a new set.

Anyway, yeah. Thanks. Amazing effort.

Wondering if you would be considering reviewing the Audio Technica EW9 clip-on here and the Etymotics HF3 for the IEM thread?

Thanks and I agree - having multiple sets is great!

No plans to buy an EW9 at this point but I do own an HF3 - just need to get around to writing up the review.

Bought some AKG k420 portable headphones today for around $60 with free shipping. I think these may be a good alternative to the Sennheiser PX100.

They could sound really bad or really good. I'm hoping at the very least they sound as good as the Beyer Dynamic DT-235. I'm going to use these during exercise.

I just want something that just feels like it's not even there. Earbuds are OK, but i'm so tired of those.

Reviews of these just don't seem to exist online..a total of five on Amazon and that's about it.

I also didn't realize that Denon seems to sell a lot of cheap under $100 headphones. I've read some poor reviews of them.

If I had $500 to spend i'd get the A100. They don't look as small as I'm hoping though. Too bad I can't spend $500 on a headphone right now. That's a good thing normal_smile%20.gif

Guess I still need to get a CAL while I still can. I guess if I don't like the k420 I'll stick with the DHP-II or DT-235.

Hi, such a useful review!

Have you ever tried the Pioneers SE-MJ5?

How does it compare with the CAL! ?

Thanks!

Unfortunately I have not heard any Pioneer sets. Some are quite pretty though. I am tempted to try the HDJ-500(R)

Or the MJ71

Does the ATH-M50 ever go on sale? I'm wondering if I should look for a deal on it on Black Friday/Cyber Monday

The M50 probably won't go on sale, even if the store carries them, the promotional price would probably be higher than the online "street" price.

You can try to find a cheaper one on the F/S forums, or you can just bite the bullet and buy it for $100 shipped.

The bass is muddy, the mids are drowned in the muddy bass and the highs are non-existent. I call them the Franken880's

Well at least they look more convenient and more comfortable than stock 880s though I'd have thought that the whole point of modding them would be to ditch the stock drivers in favor of something that doesn't sound terrible.

i had these since 6 years ago, when i didnt cared much about SQ but i did care about bass. they arent as bad as the Franken880's turned to be tho... I think i screw up when trying to make them one sided cable...

The first looks like the Groov-e Retro; only a tenner here in UK in Pink or Midnight Blue?

From same site, the Panasonic RP-HTX7 is £22 for comparison, perhaps a fairer representation of their relative values according to your findings.

Keep up the good work smily_headphones1.gif

It does but I guess there's no way to know if the Groov-e is as good (or as bad) as the Earpollutions. At £10 vs £22 the ThrowBax actually make sense.

I thought you were going to try the Sportapro's on these. Oh well, I just ordered a pair for a radically different pair of headphones...

But I'll stick them in something similar to your woodies first and let you know how they sound.
