I'll be getting the Q40 soon, so I plan on making a comparison thread between that and the M50/SRH840 (either that or just add to another one).

I would call most DJ cans portable as they are at the very least flat-folding. I think I said a few pages ago that to make it to this thread the can has to possess at least one of the following: a flat-folding or collapsible structure, a short/thin cord, or a supra-aural design. So yeah, even my Ultrasone Pro650 is portable as far as I'm concerned.

How's your review of the EM7 coming?

Yep, I believe that the current Denon D2k has 50mm drivers and that certainly falls in the 'fun' category.

EM7 review should be up tonight or tomorrow. Adding something to the thread takes me longer now than it used to with the old Head-Fi .

Any plans to add the M50 into the list? You already have the M30 up there, as well as a few other dj/studio cans.

Absolutely. I've got quite a few higher-end DJ cans in the works, M50 included.

Joker,

have you made Summary table for this thread, like you did with your IEM thread? I see no table here.

There's a big, colorful table at the end of his reviews, if that's what you mean.

Got it. For some reason, I overlooked it before.

Joker can you tell me how big are the HTX7? are they fully circumaural? How are they compared to the Sony MDR-X200 sound wise/size wise? I had the sennheiser 202 and I had to sell them off because they touched my ear.

The HTX7 is fully circumaural for me but it's a small headphone. The inner pad diameter is about as big as the Sennheiser HD202 and derivatives but the pads are thinner so they are smaller overall. Cup depth was plentiful for me but not quite on-level with the JVC S700, which have angled drivers to create more room. I've never heard/seen the X200 in person.

I second this. These are tentatively my next purchase :) Would also like to see a review on the M40FS.

I did end up pulling the trigger on the 185's as I decided to order the ATH-ON3's as my first experience with Audio Technica, at the same time. I'm not expecting ES7 sound from the ON3's, but hopefully they honor the AT house sound.

The CV163 is not nearly as good as the CV185, both in sound and build quality. Comfort is decent and that's about it. My next target might be the CV135. The CV720 is interesting as well. I believe Olimoronio bought a set and reported that they sound decent.

There's a thread somewhere around here detailing the differences between real and fake ATH-ON3s. Might be of interest to you, though it's a few years old and fakes may have gotten better in the meantime.

Got the 185's today. First impressions out of the box are very little to no bass impact at lower volumes (maybe it comes out with burn-in), nasaly/honky in the upper mids, and sibilant treble at a volume level high enough to bring the bass out. -3db treble, and +3 bass in rockbox (Fuze v2) seemed to smooth them out quite a bit. Bass impact is now there, and I can deal with the mids. They definitely aren't bad for the money. I've heard worse for more money. They kind of remind me of a bass shy version of my K81DJ's, without the sweet AKG mids. And, they're actually more comfortable. I will have to see if burn-in helps. Still curious if anyone has any comments on the higher Coby models.

As for the ON3's. I ordered them, and the coby's from amazon (J&R Music World seller), so I shouldn't have to worry about fakes. If they sound disgusting I will look into it.

EDIT: I retract my previous statement. As I sat here for the first 30 minutes listening to these, the bass surely and steadily came forward. Bass EQ now at +1 or +0. I think the mids are starting to smooth out too. I'm a convertee, burn-in is very real! :) At least, on cheap phones.

Just for the record, as I stated earlier in the thread, I do not recommend the Coby CV720's any longer. Their already somewhat thin bass just slips away with burn-in... weird.

BTW When is someone going to review the Koss UR-55 sold at Best Buy? I'd do it but I want to make 100% sure that they do not utilize the KSC75 driver first.

I was going to pick up a pair tomorrow, as I already love the porta pro sound. I'm not a top dog reviewer like some of the people around here though. Would be willing to give my impressions out of the box/after burn-in though.

How would I tell if they have the KSC75 drivers without dismantling?
