Not very accurate. There's a review of the AE1 on the front page of this thread

Not much difference in sound quality but in terms of sound signature the XB500 is quite a bit more bass-heavy. The Philips is reasonably well-balanced and has pretty good clarity but if you're looking for balanced and clear sound it's not nearly as good as a Senn HD428. The build quality, isolation, and comfort are all very good on the Stretch, though.

Yes and Yes... They're about the same size as your FC700, to answer your previous question.

Has anyone heard the Audio-Technica EW9's? Judging from the price, I assume they're a tier above the EM7's, but how do they compare to the higher-end traditional cans?

Thanks. I'm honestly considering the HD-25 more than the ESW9s.

ljokerl, how does the Denon AH-D1100 compare to the CAL!, soundwise? Which one is your favourite? popcorn.gif

I own both ES10 and ESW10jpn, and I'm looking for a comparison between those two, or one of them, with Ed8. I couldn't find one, but perhaps I haven't searched deep enough? If anyone knows of such a match, would you be so kind to let me know?

On another topic: I'd be willing to lend the ESW10 to ljokerl if he wants to add them to the impressive list he already has put together... Let me know too ;)

Cheers.

Great spot-on review on the D1100 Joker!

As resolving, detailed and cinematic (nice term) it sounds, when I owned them I couldn't stand the presentation after some time. The vocals were too far away from me and I couldn't truly connect to the music that much. Definitely found myself preferring the the HD25 more over the D1100 even with the soundstage shortcomings of the HD25. And 'annoying' is another good term to use when it comes to the bass - it's great hard-hitting bass but with some songs, I would wish for something more balanced. Which then led me to preferring the D1000 (aka D1001, CAL!) over the D1100 in ever way (balance, imaging, and timbre quality). I think the D1100s are a huge basshead can and work better for more genres than others. If only the D1000s had the isolation the D1100s have though.

oh imaging oh d1001 is good? Which would you say is most accurate, like for FPS gaming like cod 4, M50, D1100, D1001?

I don't think I would recommend any of them for gaming since they're all pretty intimate-sounding and I would imagine you'd want a wider soundstage when it comes to gaming. I think I would get a completely different headphone for gaming, preferably something open with a wide soundstage. Although there are good closed cans that have good soundstage from what I read. Check out the ATH ADX00 series and maybe some of the Ultrasone PRO series and look for reviews when it comes to gaming.

When it comes to music, my favorite can from those three are definitely the D1000s/1001s and I feel the imaging is better with them. The M50s are not far off either. And the D1100s don't have a very accurate presentation IMO. But I'm not so sure about them when it comes to gaming.

I use D1100 in gaming, and they are pretty accurate with DSS or Mixamp, though there soundstage is not wide but it's enough to tell enemy position.

D1100 is less balanced - the CAL! is plenty warm and bassy for me. The D1100 takes the bass to extremes. The CAL! also has a more conventional presentation compared to the 'cavernous' (for lack of a better word) feel of the D1100. Technically they are not far apart but I prefer the CAL! by a pretty big margin.

Someone else already offered me an ESW10 but I really appreciate the thought! I put it off for the time being due to the massive review backlog.

Thanks, I agree on all counts. D1100 is a great basshead can but it definitely isn't for me. The bass is too intrusive and gives me headaches (as did the M-Audio Q40 and  JVC M750 before it).

Really? I feel the mids on the HD25 are mildly recessed whereas the ESW9 mids were more prominent (granted, it has been a long time since I've owned the ESW9).

Well, HeadRoom's graphs agree with you, though I don't know why I never found ESW9 that way.  One of the things that 7509HD, which I mention for comparison, is to me is one of the first headphones that I try that has stronger mids than bass and treble.  I had ESW9 before those Sonys.

... Whatever, lol.

*shrug* we all hears things differently. I don't necessarily agree with all of Headroom's graphs either rolleyes.gif

You can try this site http://headphonelounge.com/ from legit member of the MOT on HEAD-FI.  Very good product for the price.

Thanks @ljokerl, you're review imporessions on the Denon AH-D1100 sound was spot-on...I had my Denon AH-D1100 for 8 months and I already don't like the cheap cables that come with it. The cables became distorted and crumpled which is very disappointing. So I might score the build lesser than yours. Other than that, it is very good headphone for watching movies or playing games on surround sound, with a very slight dark tone. But still they are very enjoyable as a whole.

I think I might recable to a silver cable them if I had a chance to locate someone who can here.
