I don't believe so. I've been wanting to try one of the dual-driver portables for a while now and I definitely would've jumped on the C-jays if they were.

Denon AH-P372

Denon AH-P372: there're two versions, "dark" and "bright". The "dark" version is some 9 dB muter than the "bright" version and misses some treble/high midrange. The "dark" version is even less loud than AH-D1000. The "bright" version is slightly less efficient than earbuds, it's really loud and works very well with any player. The "dark" version is dullish, and contrasts bass more.

One of the two sets here was "bright", another "dark". Both white, the "dark" with black pads, the "bright" with grey pads. Theory is, "bright" are early production, "dark" are late production (after Denon's gotten hit for exceeding some loudness limits, maybe EU...).

Dangermouse went and got himself a "bright" black set that was sitting in a store for a couple years. Black body/black pads. So there

The white sets cost roughly $30 each, off EBay, in December.

Here's a photo of both recabled:

Denon DJ DN-HP500

...which is a curious animal as it's pretty close to Denon AH-D1000. Weird, isn't it? DJ headphones that aren't bassy, aren't boomy, are quite gentle in sound, spacey, and comfortable.

DN-HP500 are pretty strong competition to K-81DJ/K-518DJ. They outperform them in all ways: comfort, weight, speed, soundstage, tonal balance, clarity. They're very comfortable out of the box. They come with a coiled cable, single-entry.

There's a slightly artificial reverb in the DN-HP500, and they've a slight midrange lift. Bass and treble, of course, are nicely rounded off, polite, as with all Denon headphones. No exaggeration of either.

So DN-HP500 are somewhere between AH-P372 and AH-D1001, but closer to AH-D1001. Supra-aural AH-D1001.

Price ex. shipping was $70.

DN-HP500 fold cups into the headband, but the headband's not collapsible, just like K-81.

First of all, like many have stated, tks a lot for this very helpful review, ljokerl (actually since I'm more of an IEM guy, I prefer your other one more :P)!

And yes, I know that this may be an annoying question, but would you later include the KSC35 in this comparison as well

They're not, CAL=Denon AH-D1001.

DN-HP500 are smaller, supra-aural.
