I've had the crazy notion of trying the Subjekt Ninja ($25 @ buy.com) ever since I first got the AK-HD1000 but I've managed to restrain myself so far. What are the chances that they're any good, really?

Nice going on the Cortex - saves me the trouble :p. Hope they sound good!

Interesting about the Eckos though as I've learned from my earpollution experiments identical exteriors do not mean identical sound in the case of fashion phones.

Oh and I've always wanted to try those HD25-looking Behringers (HPX4000?) but never got the chance.

Have any of those Subjekt phones sounded any good? I usually just skip right past them when I'm browsing.

I let you know how the Cortex sound and I'll probably get the Behringer's eventually. I swear God must have put me on this Earth to own every budget phone ever made. Boy do I have a lot but boy do I have a long ways to go.

remind me of the ATH AD700 'cept by the cups

No way, dude. I owned the ATH-AD700's and they look FAR better than the monstrosities pictured above. I think it has to do with the roundness of the mesh and the silver color Just... yucky.gif

I've only owned one and it was okay. I think the Sony XB-style form factor messes with the sound as the huge pads create a wide gap between ear and driver.

Hello |joker|,

I am very interested in the AIAIAI TMA-1 headphones. I read many positive reviews and am wondering if you would be able to check them out yourself. Look forward to your great in depth reviews. Thank you for your time and contribution!  :)

Best regards,

jk1m

No plans to review the TMA-1 at this point - sorry. I'm as curious about it as anyone else but I just haven't got the time.

Poisoned your mind, body, and spirit. Gotta be more careful looking at adverts and stay away from the headphone sections!

Speaking of addiction I was at Guitar Center and was thinking of picking up some KRK KNS-8400 headphones. I came home and then decided I wanted them.

Drove all the way back there and bought them. Luckily it's only a 6 minute drive.

These things might be a perfectly acceptable portable headphone. They're quite small, even smaller then the SRH-440.

The comfort is great, fit is perfect. These have these two memory foam "bumps" on the headband. The pads are even better then the ones on the M50.

The sound I don't know about yet. They sound VERY similar to the SRH-440. It seems like they have about the same amount of bass as the SRH-440. Maybe even less.

These things are so bright and some songs are VERY ear piercing. I hooked them up to my amp and haven't noticed any differences. I'm hoping burn in helps them.

So far I think they sound good. They have a ton of detail. The Imaging reminds of the DJ100. Soundstage I'm not sure about yet. The driver looks like the one on the SRH-440.

Overall sound signature seems the same, but these seem to have better mids and way more detail.

BTW they do have a volume control, but it's an extra and doesn't need to be attached. The cable is replaceable.

So glad someone finally got a design right. SRH-840 sounded great, but I couldn't use them. M50 comfort was not bad, but they're a bit big and not small enough for portable use. These would be perfect for that.

I'm hoping burn in changes some things, but I doubt it. As is, they're keepers I think. I don't know if I can tolerate such a bright sounding headphone for long periods of time.

EDIT: Oh yeah, if that wasn't enough, I also bought another pair of DJ headphones. They should be here tomorrow and I got them for only $50 new.

Keepers as in the seller can keep 'em?

JamesJamesJamljokerl, I noticed that you have the Coby CV135BLU in your basket. Now, I know they're cheap as dirt but I'd still delete them... waste of time. They don't even approach the CV-185's. Do what you want - I just know you have a lot of stuff on your plate and thought your time would be better spent elsewhere.

Oh, and a question: When you said "Interesting about the Eckos though as I've learned from my earpollution experiments identical exteriors do not mean identical sound in the case of fashion phones."

What usually sounds better? The fashion phones or the others?

BTW, James, I put those XO Vision drivers in a pair of Koss UR-15C's and they pretty much lost everything good about them. I know it's a radically different enclosure than your Kanen's but I just get the feeling that they aren't going to sound good in those either.

I think the amazingly good sound of them comes from a combination of two things...

1. The sides of the enclosure are totally open

2. The close proximity of the driver to the PCB and the battery casing.

In other words, they got lucky.

Sorry, I meant that I want to keep them and probably won't return them or sell them.

I've been listening to these for about an hour now. They sure don't try to come out and try to impress you, but I guess that's a good thing. I was hoping these sounded like the SRH-840, but no such luck. Oh well.
