Shootout: 114 Portable Headphones Reviewed (Xiaomi Mi Headphones added 04/21/2015) - Page 68

Hrmm makes me want to re-hear the M50 again, for some odd reason I wouldn't rank them that high on SQ.  Comfort and durability were superb.  So many headphones so little time, haha.  Good stuff as always!

Have you ever reviewed/heard a Cortex brand phone, ljokerl?

Ha, yes - a good-looking DJ phone isn't easy to find. Too bad we may never find out of the Reloops are any good redface.gif.

Well they're also just $12 but yeah, I'll keep holding off.

Thanks. Remember - it's a relative scale. The 9/10 means nothing out of context - I just think the M50 is *as good* as the HD25 and better than whatever I ranked below. Not making any blanket statements on phones I haven't heard or anything.

Nope. I've only ever run into the 2500 and it held my attention just long enough for me to put it in my cart.

Oh, I'm not saying they're bad phones just rambunctious. I don't know about you but I have to be in a certain mood to listen to such phones.

Hmmm... An unknown... :drool

"The bass response is HEAVY. I have a Bose sound system in my car and that is the closest thing I can compare the bass response to. You really feel the punch, especially in Hip Hop and Electronic music. This is largely due to the 50mm drivers. Some may think the response is too heavy, but for anyone that enjoys hip hop, rap, electronic or anything that has a driving bassline these are THE headphones you want."

Heavy but good??? Bose???

"if you love Techno music and like to feel the Bass and mid level Bass, these are perfect for you."

I hate Amazon reviews.

You guys ever find things in headphones that are so unbelievable that you are almost embarrassed to repeat them?

For instance - I do a lot of thrift store shopping looking for vintage gear (mostly speakers and amps and such) and I always see a headphone for the price of dirt so I usually pick 'em up.

The other day I was at Goodwill and they had this pair of wireless phones in the packaging. The only thing was the infrared (*shudders*) sender was missing but I didn't care about that 'cause I always wire them up anyways just to see how they would sound.

These phones are called XO Vision and I looked them up on the net and they run about $12 a pair. Well, the first thing I noticed when I took off the pads was that the drivers were HUGE for such a small phone. I hooked them up to some spare wire I had lying around and I'll be damned if they didn't sound good... really good in fact. These fairly easily beat out most of the phones I've heard in the $0-$20 category and many in the $20-$50 category. I plan on buying several of these just for the drivers alone.

Now I know most of the folks reading this are probably saying to themselves "Yeah right, this dude is tripping." Well, all I can say is if you ever see a pair get them and wire them up and then tell me I'm wrong.

Then I found a pair of full-sized wireless Sony's (don't know the model #) and had a similar experience... and I'm no fan of Sony, believe me.

I don't know why I'm sharing this other than I thought it was funny what you can find when you really look and it's also funny how few people will believe it. As if I go around making up stories for fun in my spare time.

Anyways, I'm just rambling on now so... see ya later.

/derail

Haha... These were RadioShack branded phones not Sony. No wonder I liked them - probably rebranded Koss.

You hear that RadioShack??? I really like your no model # wireless phones. Shane the shill will pimp them like there's no tomorrow... just have my check ready.

Still not as bad as some CNET reviews - the content : number of words ratio is not zero.

Also these new nested quotes are really annoying.

I'd be curious to see how you rate the HDJ500. I have the big brother in the HDJ-2000 and really like it, although admittedly it's very expensive for what you get.

The MJ31 and MJ71 are actually exactly the same, only the earcups look different, there is more metal on the MJ71's earcups. I figured that might make them heavier so I went for the MJ31 instead for that reason, and they were $15 cheaper.... although they are so good I'm thinking to get the MJ71 as well just to have them.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who misses the classic vbulletin. wink.gif

They should have just said "Lot's O bass!" Would have been just as helpful.

I think I'll get a pair of these at the end of the month... I can't afford the damned Ultrasone's I want right now anyways.

What about the new AiAiAi TMA-1?  Those have stirred up quite the following or at least interest.

I wouldn't mind trying it but I don't see myself buying one at the moment.

I dunno why i'm thinking about these

looks nice, folding, detachable cord, come with 2 cords, coiled and regular, carrying pouch and are those a set of extra ear pads i see if the photo bellow? ...  if you consider all that the 89$ might be a bargain if the sound is only "decent" ... a bit of fun balanced sound and they could be a steal, imo. correct me if you think i'm wrong.

edit: Exchangeable ear cups made of artificial leather: large cut-out for enclosing wear, small cut-out for incumbent wear.

yup those are pads.

also:

Frequency Response 3Hz - 30kHz
Impedance 24 ohm
SPL 109dB
THD & Noise < 0.2% @ 1kHz, 1mW
Rated Input Power 300mW
Connections 1/8" (3.5mm) and 1/4" (6.3mm) Jacks
Cord 10' (3m) (Straight)
13' (4m) (Spiral)

The accessory pack does look very nice - about as good as with the Numarks. The specs look fine to me and the hinges remind of the Denon ones so they should be sturdy evil_smiley.gif

The red pads look hideous IMO.
