EDIT: Oh, and thank you, James for pointing these out.

great! one good find at last!

the fact that you havent tear them appart and remover parts is a good sign :O

lol That is a good sign, isn't it? They even have the cloth over the driver but if you take off the pads you'll see the lens is VERY open. So for once the cloth actually seems to serve a purpose – without it I think these phones would be excessively bright.

But hey, just 'cause the jWIN's need, yes NEED the cloth removed doesn't make them a bad phone IMO. I'll post exactly how to remove the cloth in another thread… I think I'll call it my "Monkey Mod" because it's so easy even the dumbest monkey could do it.

Hopefully they would live up to my expectations after reading your posts. If not, they will just end up in the FS forum. wink_face.gif

I will post my impressions as soon as I can.

If you're looking for something along the lines of what I posted above then I highly doubt that you'll be disappointed.

WARNING: If you think the JVC RX*** series is all that and a bag of chips then you may just hate these phones. lol

I was going to say go for it but I think your pads are much too small. The pads on the Creative's are 5-3/4" W x 7" H.

The pads on the Maxell DHP ii's are just slightly too small but I'm going to try them anyways because they are just so darn soft and supple.

I ordered the Denon AH-D1100 since they've dropped down to a somewhat decent price. They're no longer $199!

I'm a bit worried they're be too much of a bass monster, but maybe as long as it's somewhat controlled, i'll be OK. I'm hoping the mids will be better than the DT-990 or M50's mids.

I found the mids on my amped D2000 to be just fine for me, so I'm only the mids are not too much worse. I couldn't tolerate the mids of the 250 ohm DT-990.

I wanted to buy the AH-A100, but I'd be feeling guilty about buying such an expensive (secondary) headphone for about...a month. They're $500 and I'm not sure how long they'll be for sale.

In this economy it's hard to want to buy a $500 headphone and I'm not exactly rich.

My KRK KNS-8400 is perfectly fine for what I want right now, but it's still going to be nice to have an unamped bass heavy headphone around.

Strangely, I still find my DJ100 the most fun headphone to listen to. Even more than my k601. Really annoying being tied down to an amp for something I want to be more portable. Oh well.

I couldn't resist it either. I ordered the Pioneer SE-MJ2 (meant to get the MJ3's, dangit! Oh well... I guess I can live with plastic instead of REAL METAL! *grumble*) and another pair that's... a surprise!

Okay, the Creative's sound like they'll be great, but don't hate on the JVC RX*** series! Listening to the 700 right now, love 'em.

Everybody keeps talking about the JVC RX700 .... Joker should have a Full headphones shootout as well devil_face.gif

Oli weren't you going to create a thread for random blabbering like this?

Some dude made a thread calling them the best dynamic headphones ever created (SUPER LOLZ!) and everyone fell for the hype. My verdict? They suck.

Yep. Still doing it. Probably tonight.

Put velour/cloth pads and tell me that they don't improve dramatically. It's what these bloated POS should have came with in the first place.

OK New thread created... "The Incoherent Rambling Room" AKA: "The Splinter Thread"

So if you have any questions or just random thoughts that don't pertain to phones that ljokerl has either reviewed, is reviewing or plans to review then post them in the new thread.

I think we can all agree that ljokerl has put too much time and effort (not to mention money) into this thread for us to clutter it all up and make it our own personal chat room. So that's what the new thread is for - please use it.

Noted. I did think they looked great when they were announced and they are quite hard to resist at current prices.

Please... have some compassion!

And besides there way more variables with full-size cans. Can't just plug them into my D10 and call it a review.

Thanks, I appreciate that. May the new thread thrive and prosper!

Be honest, ljokerl, you just don't want to review the horrible RX***'s. Don't worry, I'm with you there, buddy. lol

Joker how about you make an exception and DO review the RX-700s.. we would have a fresh perspective on them.

Btw- After the 7-7.5 I did order them.. now waiting to listen to them

ljokerl said the RX***'s deserved a 7-7.5??? No way in hell they even come close to the Maxell DHP ii's.

The bass is just SOOOOOO bloated and boomy (even after all the suggested mods and my own cloth pad mod) that it completely ruins them. And if you plan on getting these without modding them then my condolences. They have thick felt cloth over the lens and... Ah forget it. What do I care? Enjoy!!!

Ahhh.  Well that makes sense.  And I sort of figured the strong write up to mediocre score kind of had to do with price point and comparison to higher quality phones.  But it is a good review.  Certainly makes me want to to take a run at them and see if I like them enough to add to the "wall".  Guess it'll have to wait til after xmas though.  The fam may not appreciate me bringing more headphones into the house!  atsmile.gif

Nice review though.  Definitely makes me want to find where you can buy them and take a shot.

Well this is a first - usually people ask why a score is so high tongue.gif. I suppose I have to answer, then.

The rating is a relative thing - it tells you how I feel the HT-21 fits in among established headphones in technical ability - in this case just above stuff like the PortaPros and PX100s but not quite up there with the DHP-II and PX200-II. My personal like/dislike of a sound signature may show through in the wording of the review but I try to take preference out of the equation when it comes to scoring. I did say that the HT-21 will not be confused for a high-end set due to the limited dynamic range of the drivers and the relatively low detail level compared to something truly high-end like the HD25-1. I guess sonic perfection for $40 is impossible even for MEE.

Oh and re: availability - I would expect that Meelec's site is the only place to get them since they're still only on pre-order (at $5 off MSRP).

Thanks for this post, it answers a lot of questions for those looking for the sub$-- price range. Haha, and it makes me feel good for picking the various portable cans over the years. I like how you put the ATH-EM7, very light and detailed sound next to the bass heavy Koss clip-ons. And you're very right about how harsh they are out of the box--but after awhile they are quite nice. The only thing I wish they did better was clip more snug against the ear. The sound a whole lot better with a little bit of pressure from a winter hat resting on them.

Ouch dude, joker is not getting paid to do this.  He is putting time aside to help others, and if his actual life and job get in the way of that, why don't you start paypaling him some money to help him out instead of demanding free assistance?  He has already stated that he has many headphones that aren't up on the reviews yet.  Give him a break.

lol. I don't think jamesmcprogger is demanding reviews... He is just stating he wants more reviews in a funny way, lol!
