I like the MS300 but I really don't think it can compete with the M-80 on sound. It's a bit more comfortable, though.

ljokerl, what would be a good, comfortable headphone (Either On Ear or Over ear is fine) that has a similar sound signature to the Yamaha EPH-100 ? Because I am absolutely addicted to their sound (Thanks for your recommendation on the other thread btw !), but I like to wear headphones in the house as opposed to earphones.

 

I prefer it to be something well made and good looking.

 

Preference is either for closed or semi-closed that doesn't leak. I am using a Fiio e7 as a DAC/Amp with the zero bass boost setting.

ljokerl - After trusting your review on the Panasonics and owning/loving them for a few months I am finally getting the upgrade fever.  I was going to go to my local Best Buy since it's the closest authorized dealer here.  I am thinking about getting either the Audio-Technica ATH-ESW9A or Sennheiser 518/558 Full Size Cans.  Any suggestions ljokerl  or from anyone else?  I have an Asus Xonar Essence sound card and a really nice cMoy amp.  My Panasonics have had their pads changed to softer and more comfortable Beyer pads.  Thanks for reading and keep up the good work.

IJokerl.I tried searching for your official review of the JVC- Rx700s but I have not been able to find it  anywhere. I know it was all the rage a couple years ago but wanted your take on them.Those are definitely my favorites out of what I own.

Really different options there, one's a small portable on ear headphone and the other's a full size open one, depends on what you're looking to use it for really...

I think he once said he'd rate the sound like a 7.5 in relation to this thread... You can probably google "Head Fi joker RX700" and find several scattered posts from him about them. I still like mine even tho I've heard and now own some better stuff. Not the most accurate or detailed but pretty fun sound and rather comfortable for such a large headphone.

Mine has become my living room TV/movie pair, I'll probably experiment with modding it once I've bought a better pair of closed cans (probably M-80). There's tons of mods posted here that you can try, I think felt removal and cotton stuffing of the pads are the simplest/most common. They're still a really good buy for the money IMO, even if the hype has died down.

OK thanks for that.I have modded my pair with both the foam mod and the felt one but I prefer the sound of them stock. The felt mod is not reversible so be careful with that one. Still sounds great but I do have to adjust the treble for them to sound the way I want. The foam mod is pretty nice for comfort and increasing soundstage a bit. Best value I have found along with  the Ksc75s and the 8320s. Lost interest in thePanasonic's Htf600s  I have (detail is just not there) so I wouldn't consider that a value/sound leader but they are still pretty decent..

The M-80 may not have as much bass boost as the EPH-100 but the extension is definitely there. Instrument separation is excellent.

Sorry, haven't heard the HD518/558. I owned an HD598 briefly but didn't think it was as good as my HD580. The ESW9A is much more portable than all of these. If you're getting headphones primarily for home use I would probably go for something bigger but I haven't tried very many full-size cans.

Hey,

 

Just received my V-Moda M80s today. Just beautiful. They don't hurt my ears at all. Beautiful bass and Treble and everything in between. Just tested EBM, Electro-Industrial, Aggrotech/Hellektro, Darkwave, Harsh/Terror EBM and Noize on these, just beautiful. It'll be amazing to rave with these on!

i'm curious too, but i love the M80s so much! They are just perfect. I got them for 170 Euros on Amazon (a discount, i guess). Now they're back to 189 Euros.

I must have good ears or something.  I'm not a headphone phreak in the least but was looking for something new as my PX100 no longer works because of the cheap cable/plug.  I went to B&H, where they have a nice assortment of phones on display in a large range of prices.  After going through the cheaper ones, I moved over to the row with more expensive phones and listened to a bunch, a lot of them in the top ten of this list.  They all sounded pretty good as I had no experience with them.  Then I tried on the Beyerdynamic 1350 without any knowledge of them and was hooked.  THIS is what I wanted.  Before buying anything though I wanted to check out reviews and comments on the forums and came here and other references on Google and found I'm not alone in this assessment.  The 1350 are really head and shoulders above the others, and I'm not being influenced by reviews, hearsay, comments.  So now that I've confirmed my own initial impression I have the problem of spending $200 more than I had planned.  I guess we're not going out to dinner for a few weeks.smily_headphones1.gif

 

There was a guy there looking at the AT 50 and when I pointed the 1350 out he said they were uncomfortable.  I didn't find them in the least uncomfortable, but I guess there's more than a few people that think that.  I makes me realize that these forums do influence ones thinking.  Better to have tried them without the influence.  Also, B&H is a noisy store with their overhead basket system that sends everything to a central check-out.  Putting these on completely shut it out, where none of the others did, but admittedly I didn't make an effort to position most of them properly.  I only did a quick listen on my iPad to each as power was running out.

 

I ride the NYC subway daily and these feel like they'll completely kill the noise, not that the subway is as bad as you think.  I'm also flying next week and I'll give it a try on the plane, assuming I buy them.

 

Oh, I may be a noob about headphones, but I've dabbled in DIY audio and have a pretty nice tweaked out all tube system so I'm not a noob to audio in general.  I'm looking forward to plugging the 1350 in and hearing some vinyl.
