One way to view it from my perspective is how similar the HF2 sounds to the PS1, only with slightly less aggressive bass and a touch lighter up top. That should say a lot about how I hear the HF2. Compared to the HP1000 the HF2 is more forward in presentation, more energetic, and actually sounds a tad faster and quicker paced. The HP1000 is a bit more full bodied, smoother, balanced, and laid back, very even keeled and non-assuming which I have always enjoyed about it, with the presentation being a bit more distant The HF2 is a great compliment, providing a snappier sound, while still retaining very good tone and body. I do find the HP1000's to have more of that lush, organic sound that is truly unique and special, but the HF2 is not very far off and shares the same liquidity through the mids that I have heard with the PS1. A big difference is that I need flat pads for the HP1000 but bowl pads are excellent on the HF2, which gives the HF2 a bit more of a spacious headstage and some nice clarity within the soundscape that is a nice compliment to the HP1000.

I never ordered the HF2 and do not plan to do so now, but I do have a question that I have not seen anyone else address: Why were there separate engravings, with one small batch that had the lettering correct, followed by another batch or batches with the lettering incorrect? Put differently, why was the original correct lettering changed in a manner that rendered it incorrect?

I do not think it is for certain, but speculation is that some very vocal individuals raised up in arms about the original etching being "blurry", which IMO was not really warranted as some of the pics people took with flash made them look blurry. There was enough groaning that possibly Grado felt like going to another engraver to "fix" the issue, only to create another mistake in the process that wasn't caught. My only criticism of the original engraving is that the etching doesn't seem very deep, maybe 1-2 passes on the surface level, and the pics I have seen of the current ones seem to have much deeper engraving that looks nicer, minus the 1

I'm not to impressed with the outcome, I thought the mistake would be corrected and everyone would be happy.

I'm not sure what to do, I really want to hear the HF2 but I'm not impressed with the take it or leave it attitude either.

Any other product I would cancel my order but with these limited to 500, It's a tough call.

I really, really, hope that said vocal member's bitching about what amounted to bad lighting and flash photography isn't the cause of all of this, but given the timing of the initial delay it looks that way.

To be fair, maybe JG misinterpreted all of the "blurry cup" joking that followed as well.

Who knows, though, there are a ton of reasons one might switch engravers between what's basically a trial run and a full production run.

Anyway, thanks to Todd for the updates. I've confirmed my order with him and can't wait to hear them.

I hope they sell out before the end of the month.

After I get them, I intend to watch the next F1 race with them on, surround sound be damned.

Hahaha we reep what we sow! People here whine and whine and whine about things that they are literally clueless about, and look what happens. Griping about the materials of the HD800 before seeing anything but product shots, griping about QC from crappy pictures that would make anything look bad.
