for forum, please enable search for "best"

Thread Starter
ran into this problem a couple times in the past few weeks it says "best" is too common a term to search for, but I think it is an essential term, what if someone wants to look for best IEM, or best headphones in a price range, etc... without wading through tons of pages. run into a similar issue in a lot in other forums with three letter searches disabled, makes no sense to me, good thing it isnt an issue here

My experience with the search function, is that whatever you enter, you get way too many pages of information. Better thread titles might help, but don't hold your breath...

What is "best" depends on who you ask so I tend to take those threads with a grain of salt when I am researching new purchases. I have a feeling that there has been quite a few instances of buyers remorse because some newbie reads where a high post count member states that product "a" is the absolute best. Newbie then goes out and buys product "a" and is not happy with purchase.

Just take a peek at any of the equipment forums and you'll see the first page of each one inundated with "best X" threads. No need to search for the plague when you're already infected!

As usual, there are few substitutes for your own experience, and experience is the name we give to our accumulated failures.

There is, broadly speaking. No such thing as a "best" anything in headphones without the extra quantification of a wide range or narrow but specific range of ancilliary or secondary characteristics by which to narrow a search context. Searching for "best" will render your search results less, not more, focussed upon your end aim.

I.E. Perhaps the permutation "best" pisses poisonous pollutants into the possibly puny pool of prior postings padding peripheral peoples previously posted postulations pertaining particularly pertinantly to personal preferences.

I.E. Unfortunately, the best course of action is to do lots and lots of reading, some might say research or indeed, learning, insofar as that second term might be applied to a purely cerebral aspect of this most, ultimately, personal, personable and indivudially biased hobby.

In more specific help, what is it, in this case, that you are finding difficulty in finding information regarding?

google.com In the search box, enter 'site:head-fi.org' then search terms. No word length minimum and better searching.

"Best" as in? Sound quality, build quality, parts quality, design, looks, price, availability, warranty, .. and/or any combination of these?
The problem being that the "best" word is used too common. It has such a subjective meaning, so I think you should stay clear of searching for it in the first place. . .

On a related note, would it be possible to search for 'O2'? I'm trying to find threads with O2 in the title, but it's not working because it's only 2 characters

Hell, I think I agree with you.

I'm trying to find only threads specifically about the O2, not posts, dude.

Don't get snippy with me boy. Did you even try what I said? I just did a search like I described and EVERY result had O2 in the thread title.

Did you look past the 8th result? Maybe we're on different internets here.

There are a number of terms it is pointless. I keep hoping the search function will be improved one day.

Spectacularly spoken! Now I'm going to untie my tongue...
