Okay I have the following system:
MHC-EC55 | Mini Hi-Fi Component System | Sony | SonyStyle USA
My motherboard specs (using onboard audio):
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?mo...79&l3=815&l4=0
link to audio CODEC that is on motherboard:
Analog Devices: AD1989B: HD Audio CODEC, 10DACs/6ADCs, exceeds Microsoft Vista Premium performance for top of the line desktop and notebook PCs :: Audio CODECs :: Audio/Video Products
I want to know what my options are for using these Sony loudspeakers with my PC as the source.
There is a TRS socket on the "main unit" of the Sony system that is labeled AUDIO IN and is for connecting an additional audio source. Not sure of the size of the socket but it looks like 1/8"(3.5mm). Also the spec sheet on the Sony website says, "PC Audio Input(s) : Yes". Does this mean that I can just run some kind of cable strait from my motherboard to the Sony unit? If so, what exactly would I need for a cable?
Would it be possible to bypass the Sony "main unit" and connect the loudspeakers to some kind of external DAC/AMP? The wiring connections for the loudspeakers are the typical two wiring points each, which connect to the source via spring clips similar to this: http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/gra...SpringClip.jpg
Again, I just want to know what my options are for using my PC as a source with these loudspeakers, and what he pros/cons of any options would be. Sorry if I gave too much or the wrong kind of info, I am very noobish to audio equipment.
