Which is why listening is much better. Many don't really understand the FR graphs and take them at face value, but the opinions of owners seems to be much more inline with the headroom chart which also includes the whole frequency range. The Sennheisser charts seem to just show that they have dialed them in to have a relatively flat midrange and like a cabbage patch doll makes the owner feel warm and fuzzy by getting a personalized certificate.

At headfi, we sometimes argue the details to death and miss the big picture.

re: "personalized certificate"

anyone have an explanation of why this info does not come INSIDE the box?

how can you trust this data when its 'sent later' ? boggle!

if it belongs to the pair, it should be in the box.

I gotta say, marketing just to upscale the price really turns me off! presenting 'certificates' is a marketing ploy. just like they picked the best way to show these off with some kind of dubious flat curve (that does not even go the full audio spectrum).

I know you guys are fans, but I call BS on a lot of this sennheiser high end stuff. I like my senn phones but y'all are being taken for a ride, here.

Yeah, okay...it's a ride that I'm rather enjoying...wish more companies would take me on this kind of ride.

The measurements are taken while the phones are still at the factory, and I have no reason to believe Sennheiser is lying to me about the freq response.

The reason why they don't put the graph with the HD-800 box is because people would demand to open it to see the graph before purchasing.

I have to agree. I don't think anyone bought the headphones based on the graph or were "fooled" by the graph. The headphones were bought for the sound and the graphs are just thrown in as an extra.

i think another reason not to include the graphs in the box is so they can "personalize" the certificate with your name so you have proof of ownership. i don't feel it's a marketing ploy since i seriously doubt anyone who has or is considering getting a HD-800 has the personalized certificate as one of the reasons to get a HD-800. it's just a small but practical perk of HD-800 ownership that some, me included, appreciate. i suspect many like me didn't know there was such an offer prior to getting the HD800

as far as the true value of the graph itself, i'm not sure but again it played no role in deciding to get the HD-800 but i do want to have proof of ownership in case something happens to it among other reasons.

regards

why not just make life *simpler*, then?

this 'send it later' stuff sounds fishy to me. can anyone find a technical reason for why this is not included along *with* the device, itself?

I'd have no problem with a test cert. being inside the box. makes sense, shows there is nothing strange going on and also doesn't try to play games with the users.

it *does* sounds whacky that they sell this idea of including some data *later on* that should have come with the thing, itself.

and, so, ownership is now permanent?

what happens when you sell the things? what good is the 'first buyer's name going to do the 2nd buyer and succeeding ones?

you guys are rationalizing being marketed to. its funny. almost ;(

Because the received frequency graph doesn't look as good as others'.

Then someone else owns them.

I don't know, nostalgia? So what harm would knowing the first buyer's name be? Wait!!! They could have been owned by a famous musician/magazine reviewer/head-fi member. Ooo la la!

Welcome to America, heck, welcome to the world! We are being marketed to every minute of every day. Actually, headphone manufacturers are relatively gentle and subtle.
