New Ultrasone zino impressions (with some pics) - Page 2

I wanted to compare the Zino to the much appreciated AKG K 450 today so I went to the store just to find out... that there is no comparison!

Wow, the AKG sound like CRAP! Pure bass (which doesn't even sound tight), muddy mids and no highs. Even torturing the equalizer couldn't help.

I read a review lately (Mac Rewind #176) in which the AKG got a better review score than the Zino. This is ridiculous. Actually the Zino came out as worst contender...
I guess tastes differ.

Hard to compare sound just yet due to the Zinos out of the box. I'm trying hard not to just say it is better because literally it is new and shiny.

I can make some superficial comparisons The driver's housing is slightly bigger, and naturally the pads are also slightly bigger in diameter. For me this is a little more comfortable. But my ears are sensitive so anything on my ears is bothersome. What a curse for someone that loves headphones and wants portability.

The pads on the Zino are silver metallic fabric, the UF-30 mat black fabric. So there is a little more bling factor with the Zino. The headbands on both headphones looks to be the same. Same number of ports, same size and same placement. I'm assuming just a leaky. Not sure I could use either the Zino or UF-30 in the coffee shop unless everyone else wanted to hear Modest Mouse, Dido, The Clash, Gomez or the Rolling Stones. You get the picture

Well I'm going on a trip tomorrow. So the Headroom Total Bithead, iPhone, MacbookPro, Zino, Senn. 228 and the Shure in-ears are going to get a workout

These are some great headphones - great. I read in another thread about recessed midrange - I think it is different strokes as I am not suffering from this. Comfortable, great looking with bright treble, deep bass and a decent midrange. The build is also quite good though the box is overly big and unnecessary.

Well, I don't have th Zino's yet, they do them in the UK yet. I always feel that some of the AKG's are headphones you have to get used to. NO good throwing them on for 5 minutes in the shop, you have to spend more time with them than that, then they really start to work. It's not an instant thing.

However I had a go on my HFI15G (ultrasone), senn HD238, c-jays, and AKG's, and the Ultrasone's are the best of all worlds. they sound more grounded, more natural than the others. I'm hoping the Zino's will sound something like the HFi's rather than my iCans. but for now, it's a dream 'cause i can't get them in the UK ... or at least i haven't seen them.

Need to get rid of some of my collection as well to make room for new stuff.

I'm also waiting for the Zino to arrive on these shores (Australia). Or at least when someone starts selling them internationally on eBay or some such.

Also curious about the conflicting reports of sound quality. Those of your reporting SQ, can you also mention what headphones you are comparing it to, your source, and style of music listened to?

How does this compare to a larger phones like the Sennheiser HD465(or similar from that brand).

The Zino is hard to find at all stores, but when found, I think it is a good buy. Its sound is good, but may not be for everyone. Here is my review.

Very nice review. I am getting a pair from Craig at Whiplash to review with a burned in Amp3, and then passing them along to another Amp3 owner. Apparently, he says the synergy is good. We'll see. I am hooked on my Grados and the Amp3, so not sure if the Zino will change my mind.

Well, if the Zino are for your, they are for you and will stomp out a whole glob of contenders. Great phones despite two misses in build quality and their overall 'unique' sound.
