Is the HD280 Pro still the "isolation king" among full-size phones?

I have to give my canalphones a break for a while, but I still need super isolation at the annoying cubicle farm where I currently work. I used to own and enjoy the HD 280 Pro, mainly because it seemed to isolate better than any other full-size headphone out there. But that was several years ago, and I've been away from the head-fi world. Are there other full-size models now that beat the HD280 Pro in isolation?

The GMP 8.35 D Monitor can be new isolation king, here more info: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/ger...indeed-406658/

Of all that I've owned and tried, full-size, the DT770/80 Pro hands down. They clamp much harder than the newer versions. They are much more comfortable than the HD280 imo. These, however, require some good amplification to sing with music.

For something easily driven and low-key (the DT770s are quite conspicuous) I would check out the Sony MDRV6/7506--I recommended them to a friend for work, same situation as you, and he's been enjoying his--they're fairly neutral and have a clean punchy sound. I guess the HD280 and V6 would be pretty equal in price and vary depending on the music, but from what I've read, the V6 would be more comfortable; I've read quite a few issues of the headband cracking on the HD280 as well. With the V6, the only issue people have is that the Sony pads disintegrate after a while; people alleviate these by getting Beyer DT250 replacement pads for them (velor and more comfortable).

The HD280 isolates very well, probably better than the other headphones already mentioned. But FWIR, IEMs isolate much better. Search "HD280".

Well the dt770/80 does sound much better than the hd280s(IMO), but as far as isolation goes, the hd280s are the best isolating over the ear headphone I've ever used.

I'd agree with the DT770/80Ohm, but I use the DT770/250Ohm and they isolate pretty good as well.

So which is it "Rainman"... do you want better isolation or better sounding headphones?

Better isolation. In my past ownership of the HD280, I've found the sound to be more than adequate for non-critical use. i was just wondering if another over-the-ear phone isolated better. Sorry if my opening post wasn't clear about that.

Yes, the GMP 8.35 D Monitor are better for isolation, better sound, and much more comfortable.

Oh, no need to apologize. You were very clear in your first post. I wasn't asking you; I was asking "Rainman", who in that movie was unable to make such distinctions. So, you're wanting to know if there are headphones that isolate better than the HD280. I get the feeling from some of these posts that "Rainman" is not alone.

Also try any Ultrasone HFI

I've yet to try a full-sized can, including various DT770's and Ultrasones, which isolated better than HD280's. Of course, the DT770's and even the Ultrasones sound better, are more comfortable, and better built than HD280's. But if isolation is priority #1, the HD280 is the best I know of.

I owned the HD280 and an Ultrasone. FWIR, I can easily go along with the DT770 or an Ultrasone being built better than the HD280. However, some with a more narrow / smaller head could find the HD280 more comfortable than an Ultrasone. And as for sounding better, that's simple preference. People actually can prefer the sound of the HD280 over an Ultrasone or the DT770 with their music or uses and with their particular associated equipment. And, I too suspect the HD280 isolates better than any Ultrasone and the DT770.
