Muffled like I'm not getting the full sound. Its like there's a sheet over the IEMs or something.

I think its the fit to be honest - they just don't get deep enough into my ear. They sound pretty good when I push them a little deeper. Unfortunately, I can't get it to stay there with any of the tips that come with it. Any advice?

i assume you have tried them all?

complys maybe? sony hybrids? sorry i never had to try out lots of tips but your the first person i recall not being able to get a good fit with them

Hey how do you like these compared to the Klipsch S4s and the RE0s?

I was thinking of ordering the RE0s and a Fiio5 from Head Direct, but given the low USD compared to the euro and the fact that the PL50s just look so damn cute..! I could alwyas sell a redundant pair later...

the PL-50 are creamy, buttery smooth especially in the mids. the RE-0 are much more detailed but a touch dry and brighter making them feel bass light. the S4 is a big thick mass of bass, fine if you want tons of bass but far too much for me.

personally i really like the pl-50 but i do accept the RE-0 are "better" think RE-0 is a hard suspension ferrari, the PL-50 is a soft plush merc. depends what your preference is and what you want it for.

I had the same frustration with my PL50, as compared to my ER6i. There just seemed to be something missing. More snap and shine to the etys.

I think it does come down to fitment. I installed some loosened up ety tri-flanges on my PL50 and no longer have any complaints.

Our field engineers have left a pair of noisy rack mount servers in the next cube because there wasn't time to make room for them in the server room and they need them up during a critical deployment at a customer site.

The noise is getting to me and I've gotten tired of wearing sweaty closed cans so yesterday i got out my ER6i and used those.

The tri-flanges on them had gotten loose - kept pulling off the stem when i pulled them out of my ears, even after cleaning everything with alcohol, so, I dug out the spare set.

Comparing the set I've been wearing for 2 years with the set that just came out of the baggie, the opening on the back of the old set was visibly bigger.

A couple hours later i wondered if they'd fit the soundmagic PL50, and they do. And they don't pull off the pl50 stem when i take them out of my ears.

(Yes, I've been walking around with a pair of DT250-80, a pair of ER6i, and a pair of PL50 in my laptop bag. And another pair of ER6i that are broken. I left the IM716 at home, though, give me _some_ credit!)

I don't know what it would take to put brand new ety tri-flanges on the PL50 - might not work at all. Might go on but never come off without possibly damaging the stem.

But if you have an old set of ety flanges, give it a try.

Great review, I do want to try these sometime, to see if they can be my knockaround pair for commuting. My IE8 doesn't give me enough isolation...

The Comply P series fit on the PL50 and give, IMHO, better isolation and sound than the stock tips. The supplied foam tips are pretty good however but I needed a longer tip just for that extra isolation. The Soundmagic PL50's are not yet named on the Comply site though the PL30's are but I don't believe the two use tips of the same size.

It'd be nice to know what other tips fit the PL50's.

I've been using these with the standard silicone tips for I don't know how long. But I have not been enjoying my PL50's as much as I should, because I also have the feeling those tips don't give me the best sound and fit.

I am looking for something to replace them with, but I'd rather not spend too much money on it. I'm sure Comply tips work fine, but some of them have a pretty hefty price tag.

I have been thinking about Sony Hybrids as well, but I'm really not sure what works best for these.
Anyone that could give me some more info on this?

Get the Hybrid if you can, if you want something cheaper but similar to Hybrid, this clone might fit your need. I have been using the clone for a while now. It is a little harder than the real deal, but other wise it is pretty good.

Thank you for your response ClieOS.

I have found two shops selling the Hybrids (or EP-EX10A). One of them is located here in the Netherlands
and the other ships from the US and is cheaper

Can the eBay shop be trusted with selling the genuine product? If not, I will have to spend a little more and buy from the Dutch shop.

I had been struggling to desribe the PL-50. I think you are right, but seem to lack in the top end compared to my audio technica ath-ck7. I wouldn't say the AT are anything special but are good for metal and punk. The PL-50 are a nice all rounder for a budget and if you don't want multiple phones.

It seems to be the genuine Sony Hybrid. As far as I know clone usually are sold in bulk with no packaging.

I think you can easily trust this ebay seller. Bought mine from ebay, not from this seller but no problems here whatever so.

Thanks again for the replies.

I guess I will try to get these from eBay. Will report back if I decide to get them.
