Headphone Amps for College Guy

Thread Starter
Hey guys. So I ended up getting the Sennheiser 280PRo. Now, my mp3 is a samsung, not the best when it comes to power output. Im thinking about getting an amp for my phone. Im really cheap since i need to pay for college things. So my spending limit for amps are going to be at 30 bucks maybe even 40. Any suggestions? Thanks guys!

Fiio E3/E5. Also, do you really need an amp?

You might want to check out the fiio e5, available from head-direct. For its size and price ($23) it's not a bad portable amp for increasing power without coloring the sound. The e5 is much more neutral than the older e3, and also has an improved snr.

Edit: TheMarchingMule beat me to it. But I agree, the 280Pro doesn't exactly require that much power, so is it really necessary?

I have a fiio E5, and I don't know why. I find the thing completely useless.

If you want mine, PM me, and I'll sell it to you.
But you really shouldn't need an amp at all.

I agree that you shouldn't need an amp, and that a Fiio wouldn't really do anything (I don't know if a fiio will ever do anything). That said, you can build or buy a cmoy for around 40-50 dollars.

Probably the best band for ur buck would probably be a cmoy.

You want to be careful with amps for low impedance high sensitivity phones like the HD280 pros. They have impedance of 64 ohms but a rather high sensitivity of 113 db, which means you might get some hiss if you feed it too much power.
