Can't distinguish between MP3 and FLAC on my current system - Page 3

So, in many cases, people don't pay enough attention to notice the difference between 256kbps+ and lossless audio.

Would that be a sufficient summary?

Do not think so.
I say it comes more down to other factors. Like:
* Encoder and codec.
* Music complexity.
* Playback gear.
* The persons ability to hear artifacts and like.

Attention may be part of it for sure, but I think the other factors are more important.

Just to reinforce what everybody else said, consider your source: (as I am still ripping my CD collection to FLAC), but I know it's a good file. I have a 128kbs and a lossless version of a few Morcheeba songs and I can tell when listening through speakers, headphones it's way more evident what's an mp3 or the FLAC file. At higher rate mp3 files, I can't tell. There is a lot of "upconverted" files floating around. I don't know if they come complete with EAC report or not. Maybe that's something you could look into. Then you have a report card on how it was ripped.
