Which Beyers did you listen to and how did they sound in comparison?

And... it seems everyone else decided to jump on the Denon bandwagon recently. The D5000 is out of my price range, but a used D2000 would work. How does it compare to the D1000 (or Creative Aurvana Live, thanks to brn80 for the cheaper alternative)?

Denon D2000 are good, but have strident highs and noticeably recessed mids.
M-Audio Q40 are good, small-ish sound stage. Mids slightly recessed. Highs slightly rolled. Very easy to listen to.
ATH-M50 good, good mids, more forward, brighter presentation. Good balance, but the Q40 have more bass. D2000 is punchy, but not very warm, noticeably U shaped. Q40 is warm. M50 is less warm. All noticeably different.

Comfort, D2000 is great. Q40 is next due to large round cans, I hear the Beyer pads help more, but I haven't done that mod. M50 is tighter around the ears and can be uncomfortable over time.

Have not heard the ultrasones you were referred to and the D1000. I don't recall the DT770/80 being too controlled in the bass, but it's been a long while.

Denon D2000 must be used with a good amp, sound quite flat without.

@ KGB: i had the chance to listen to the beyer dt250, it was the 80 ohm variant as i originally wanted to pair them with my cowon without using an amp. how did they sound, well.... i'm quite a newbie to all that audio stuff, so i'm not really into that sound vocabulary. i liked the m50 more, as they (to my ears) had better and clearer hights than the beyers and sounded more "precise". well, during my search i found out that i seem to like hights, others my call "analytical" so the m50 paired with the cowon were just right to me... moreover i found that the bass of the m50 sounded "fuller"... but i might have been a little prejudiced as i read a lot in this forum and at the german hi-fi forum...

I am quite interested in the Aurvana Live, as Denon headphones are scarce and expensive here in Brissie, but this section from one of the reviews pretty much sums up everything I have read re the bass response:

the bass doesn't extend as deeply as on some other units we've listened to, but it is adequate for most musical styles. You may notice a slight lack of punch if you're a heavy dance listener for example, but otherwise it shouldn't be an issue. The overall sound is very slow, meaning notes take a while to decay. This lends a very rich sound, particularly to the bass and mid ranges.

Doesnt really sound like its what the OP is after, but I've never heard these cans so I can only go on what I've read.
