Line out signals on IpodsIphones.. do any of them get it right?

I know the 4g, 5g and 5.5g line out signals still go through the onboard amp.. which, amongst other things, led to the creation of the imod

but has apple since learned from its mistakes? Do any subsequent ipods or the new iphones deliver a true line level signal from the DAC through the LOD and thus properly bypass the onboard amp?

AFAIK all line-out connections on iPods bypass the amp. that's why there's no volume control

The thing you have to remember is that the amount of Ipod/Iphone users who are as concerned (or better yet knowledgeable enough to know) about what would make these better audio players isn't even a blip on the Apple radar screen. How many "non-audio nut" people do you know who think Ipod/Iphones are the greatest thing since sliced bread? Should something be corrected in terms of audio playback it will be by default not design, this being the case Apple probably won't "fix" something they don't consider "broken" unless they think it is needed to substantially increase sales. Unfortunately,it's not!

Why do people say the 6th gen iPod classic has a 'cleaner' lineout than the 5th gen video iPods? Even though the 5th gen are the ones with the better DAC (supposedly)... this is just what I read, wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this info.

I don't think there is any "supposedly" about it,as this is why RWA does'nt offer the Imod for 6th gen pods. I had a 6th gen Classic that I used an LOD w/ to my hp amp & it was "clean" sounding, that much is true. The problem was that the DAC just was'nt passing enough detail to make listening involving & enjoyable on music I've heard on my Zune that I know to be very satisfying!

I believe that's because there is a more direct path from the DAC to the line-out at the bottom. However the advantages of these are countered by the crappy DAC

I seeee... I knew those claims were too good to be true. So even if the lineout is cleaner, there's not as much information in the signal. Looks like I'm going to go with a 5th gen iPod and just diymod it.

RWA don't offer the iMod for 6th gen because all the signal handling happens inside one chip so there is no way for them to get at the signal in the right place.

While this may be the actual reason that RWA won't accept 6th gen. for the iMod, it is also certainly implied(on the webpage in print) that the current DACs' inferiority weighs heavily on their disinterest modding the current gen. (Sorry, I hate to look like I'm "shooting from the hip" when I repeat statements I've read, so I double checked my source)

RWA modder himself said the 6th gen had a very good output pathway, better than he expected. all the talk about it being rubbish is well... just rubbish.
