New audio gear for new MacBook - Page 3

I have no problem believing in the general good to great quality of any Apogee product, especially compared to Benchmark or Lavry which, as I have always said, are wayyyyy overpriced for what they offer.

Anyhow, that is just my ears talking Now, the good news is that many online stores carry Apogee products and they will let you return stuff, no questions asked. Great way to find out whether it should be Duet, One or .... mini-Dac, at least for me.

Another option although a bit more expensive is the Red Wine Audio Isabellina DAC w/ the Amphora Headphone Amp Module wired w/ silver cables. It is in the ALO Forum and the initial batch will sell for $2,100, not bad when you consider the Isabellina sells for $2,500 and the Amphora for $1,000. Of course the Isabellina DAC is a 16 bit 44.1 unit which may not please those looking for hyper treble detail.

I have the 13" MacBook Pro and digital out works great. Just get a mini Toslink to Toslink cable.

Ty for all the comments... For the moment i discard the Apogee Duet, cause of this mac only compatibility.... If in the future i will completely abandon Windows, will surely reconsider this wonderful interface.

I'm surprised to see so much love for the Duet here. I mean the fact that it draws its power from the computer alone is enough to brand it with a Scarlet "M" (for midfi) in most audiophile circles. Not to mention how much it delivers for <$500. Are you guys actually listening to this stuff and not paying attention to the boutique audiophile blather?

Congratulations.
