Thanks for your comments. I will wait and listen for a while before trying to compare the Zana Deux to the 6SE I once had. Unfortunately, I had to sell the 6SE before I could buy the Zana Deux. I couldn't afford to have both at one time! Therefore, it will be difficult to compare the two amps, especially with my rather poor auditory memory. All I can say at this point is that th Zana Deux sounds fantastic with my GS1000i headphones, andit also sounds equally nice functioning as a preamp in my speaker system. I am very happy so far with my Zana Deux purchase. Even the overall appearance and minimalist front panel knock me out! It is a pleasure to use.
With regard to the question about the Graham Slee phono preamp in my system, it is the best sounding phono stage I have had. I've got both the Era Gold Reflex and the Elevator EXP. Together, these can accomodate virtually any low-output MC cartridge on the market today. As far as sound quality goes, they are very quiet, very detailed, punchy/dynamic, and seemingly well-extended at both frequency extremes. I can detect no harshness or distortion. They are very 'transparent' and don't 'romanticize' the sound in any way. But, that is what I want in a phono stage. I want any 'coloring' in my vinyl system to come from the cartridge and simply be passed on to the rest of the system after adding gain and RIAA equalization. I really can't see what spending more money on a phno stage would buy versus what the Graham Slee units produce. Perhaps money could be for a more 'tubey' or 'romantic' sound if so desired. As far as solid state phono preamps go, the Reflex and Elevator should be considered in the top tier and comparable to pretty much anything.
