I've read so many out-right misleading posts about the AD700, like "the most comfortable headphones ever".
I really feel for those who buy the AD700 when they clearly should not have. One lady flat out stated her head was small, yet she was convinced by the glowing fanboy type posts and bought it. I don't think she's posted here since then.
Head width is a somewhat relative since no one is actually measuring the width. I should have measured it when I had the AD700 but didn't. If you pull the ear cups apart until they are parallel to each other, my guess is the width would be abnormally wide. Someone should stretch the AD700 over a stack of books and provide a measurement.
On a more narrow / smaller head, the AD700 actually could fit loose to the point of falling off one's head.
My head is more of an average width, and the base of the ear cups clamped my jaw line, while the top of the ear pads were somewhat loose.
IMO the AD700 seems designed for someone with a wider head that would stretch them out wide enough to get the ear pads more parallel and flatter fitting against the ears.
As for self-adjusting, that only helps the vertical positioning of the headphones, not the width which is the main problem with the AD700.
