PX100, though not circumaural, gets my vote! Ahh but everything's better with some juice!

if you want headphones without an amp, there are better companies out there than sennheiser.
Is there a reason you only want them?
(also, hd555/95 beats the px100.)

you won't get 'full potential' from any headphone without an amp, but hd555 is good without one.

I have tried the hd 595 once, out of my discman, and the sound quality was good enough, balanced, detailed, and not harsh, with a touch of warmth to the sound(which most sennheiser good phones are known for)

You won't "fully" utilize any circumaural Sennheiser headphones from an ipod nano without additional amplification. I've owned the HD280, HD555, HD595, HD580, and HD650. If not needing closed headphones, I'd take the HD595 from an ipod nano over any other.

Better companies? He's not interested in buying a company. He asked for a circumaural Sennheiser.

Why Sennheiser? They don't offer much in the way of good unamped headphones.
It would make more sense to look at Grado, Ultrasone, Audio-Technica or Denon for this purpose.
Actually, hm, Grados aren't exactly circumaural, so maybe disregard that...

I was being facetious. What he probably meant was "there are better unamped cirucumaural headphones from other companies".

Grado isn't circumaural (or particularly comfy) but their headphones go very well with an iPod.
I must ask: Why are you set on getting something from one of the biggest brands? Audio-Technica, Ultrasone, Beyerdynamic, AKG and Denon all make great headphones, too, as well as some other brands.
LOLX i love sennheiser after buying their cx300 & px100. actuali the sound quality of px100 with ipod nano is gud enough for me as i ain't reli an audiophile..so as above recommendations, what are the top unamped headphones other than sennheiser? gv specific model name pls.thks a lot!

JVC RX700, RX900, DX or w/e
