Where would you suggest ordering the Fluke 289/FVF?

Hi Guys,

My uncle from the states is coming for a visit and I want to use the opportunity and order the Fluke 289/FVF. I was wondering which retailer is considered the best?

At the moment looks like Tequipment.NET the lowest prices for test equipment are the best since they aren't expensive, at 498$, they did say I can order with my PayPal and ship to my uncles in NY, and from what I know since they're in NJ there wont be any taxes to pay.

Is there another better place to purchase from?

Thanks.

I know Tangent had some problems with them a couple of years ago (they showed an item in stock but it wasn't; big delay)

That said, I've purchased from them before, and never had any problem. Since you would (I assume) be in a time crunch for your uncle to bring it with him. Some recommend HMC Electronics, but I note they are higher priced. Most of the time in the past they had been quite competitively priced with TEquipment.

I'm in no hurry, I'll order in a couple of days and my uncle is only arriving in two months or so. I will also contact and ask how long it'll take for them to ship the item.

After reading the thread you've linked me to I'm a bit afraid of purchasing from that store. I've looked at other stores and the only stores that's somewhat close to the price at thequipment.net is this store:
Fluke 289/FVF True-RMS Industrial Logging Multimeter - In Stock, Ships Today! | Valuetronics

Any feedback about this store?

HMC is an excellent outfit and a great place to order from. I'd consider just paying their higher price.

HMC are much more expensive. For the price their asking I better just pay a bit extra and buy locally in Israel.

Oops, sorry.

I would go ahead and order from TEquipment.net, but specify in the order that it must be in stock. Or send them an email before you order, requesting in-stock status. If you do order it and then get anything other than a shipment notice, start bitching to Paypal or whoever and cancel the order/dispute payment if it looks like they are running you around.

Like I said, I haven't had any problems with them.

Thank you, I'm a bit more comfortable now. I've contacted them and asked about availability, they replied saying its in "good stock", since I dont know what that means I've sent another email and waiting reply.

Meanwhile I've also contacted Valuetronics which have replied unbelievably quick, they're just 30$ more expensive, and did say its in stock and will ship right after I make the payment using paypal. I just want to get some feedback on that store before placing an order, and couldn't find much info on google.

I'm looking at the same meter. I'm probably going to pick up a used one on ebay. I think i've had better luck than most people, I've been doing ebay for years and never been scammed or had anything bad happen knocks furiously on wood). I believe 289's were going for about 300$ on there used and 430$ new. Sorry if thats not an option for you.

Hi,

I want the 289 FVF they go for more than 430$

BTW, just heard back from tequipment.net, they said it means they have plenty in stock. I'm not sure if its true or not, but I did reply saying I must have it in two weeks, or I will cancel the order, so there's a good chance I'll order from them.

So, four weeks on: did they deliver as promised?

Unfortunately no. The very same day I've placed an order I've received an email from tequipment.net saying the price went up from 498$ to 615$, this price is about the same as buying it locally, and a bit too high for me to be able to afford at the moment. Unfortunatley I couldn't find any stores selling it for the price it used to go for
