For utmost quality, import all your music to FLAC or if you use iTunes, Apple Lossless.

Yeah, the Ultrasone. It is a fun headphone, I owned one for a while.

Nonsense (in my opinion), in my setup I can barely hear the difference between 192kbps and FLAC. Especially if it's 192 VBR were talking about, then that's just silly.

I'll switch to Apple Lossless for future imports and see if I notice a difference. I'm still curious as to how well the ESW9's would isolate compared to the DJ1s or the HFI780s-any thoughts? At this point the DJ1's seem like my best option, but I'm still all ears for suggestions.

I would probably just go with the Shure SRH840s once they come out, if I'm going to tolerate the long cord. I usually run the cord from my iPod in my pocket through my shirt and to my head. I should clarify that while I am DJing about 5-6hrs a week, I'm using the headphones for commuting/personal enjoyment 15-20hrs a week so cord functionality while commuting takes precedence.

i bought an extension cable of 0.8 metres which is (or maybe 1.00 metres) which is perfect. i have my impedence adapter on the side and these work perfectly. There are other cables that can be attached as well: remember these are detachable cables.

So, am I just confused as to the nature of the headphones or would the new Shure SRH840s actually be a good alternative to the DJ1 Pros?

I figure if I can buy a replacement cable for the DJ1s I can buy one for the Shures as well. In my mind I'd go for the Shures over the DJ1s because I like Shure products (they're based in Chicago), they look great and they're at a very attractive pricepoint.

If anyone could make the point that the DJ1s will actually fill my needs much better than the Shures I'd pull the trigger on them today, especially since my ears are longing for good sound and I don't really want to wait 3 weeks for it!
