Just because the same driver is used, doesn't mean it's going to sound like the ER4. The ER4 is very specifically tuned by ety to develop the sound sig.

Btw, I believe the Westone UM2 also uses the same driver as the ER4, and it sounds nothing like the ER4.

OK, I stand corrected.  I haven't heard the 4S, only the P, and don't have a P-to-S impedence adaptor or cable.  I guess I can see how adding 75 ohm impedence to the ER4P will smooth the overall sound when you raise the volume some to get to an equal volume level.  Maybe I should get one.  Right now, I'm still trying to settle on an amp for the ER4P that won't cost me $3-400.

the best amp for the er-4s imho is the uha-4 with the opa627 opamp in it. i will be writing up a little thing why this is so in a few weeks, but for 250 us dollars, i don't believe there is an amp yet that can provide the kind of sound that this thing does for the er-4s, in addition to having crossfeed and DAC function. even more expensive/higher rated amps, don't use the kind of opamp needed to give the right synergy with the er-4s to make it sound how i like it. you don't need 9v batteries to boot.

The Westone UM2 is a dual-driver unit that uses the CI-22955 along with the ED-29689 so of course it sounds nothing like the ER4 ???

There is nothing "very specific" about the tuning, please find a different IEM to prove your point.

Hmm, I'm interested in other portable amps for my ER4S.  I'm guessing it has more gain and able to drive the 100ohm load with good authority.  The price looks right but the amp itself is quite unattractive.

Ok, I went for a different custom.

If anyone owns an Ety ER-4 and is interested in the same Knowles driver inside a custom at only $190 USD, with awesome colour choices and a titanium or gold brushed faceplate for only $40 extra, let me know.

I might pick one up later, hard to resist, but for now I went with a more expensive custom so I don't need it.

Cheers,

Do you think that er-4s can beat or compare to heir audio 4.a 4-driver custom iem? I am used to sound of phonak pfe 111, what could I expect? Thanks :-)

Certain aspects of ER4-S can beat my JH13 but overall the JH13 wins

And cable upgrade possibility? Are they detachable? thanks!

Yes the ER4 cable is detacheable but it is not designed to be repeatedly removed as the connection gets loose.

APureSound makes a nice after market cable. On eBay you can also find right angle adapters that lets you use Westone ES cables (which is an excelent and ultimately flexible cable) and a lot of other cables with the same pin size.

Or you can go all in like I did smily_headphones1.gif
Not very portable though.
