IEM Storage

How do you store your IEMs when not in use? I used to wrap them around the player, but both my Marshmallows and some Sony IEMs ended up losing one of the channels after a few months. I am assuming wrapping the cable around the player is the culprit, and not a good idea. So, how do you guys store your IEMs when not in use, and not at home?

I know some people use Altoids tins to store their IEMs. I was thinking about buying the "Pocket-ready Hard Case" from ue, since I do need a case that is pocketable.

Here's the link.

keep them in a case all the time and also put a small bag of moisture absorbing silica gel in there too...
My Shure E4 are still perfect after 4 years of continuous service.

I just wrap mine around my Zune, and it's worked fine for about a year and a half. If you do it carefully and make sure you don't put any stress on the jack, the wiring coming out of the jack, or the wiring coming out of the buds, you should be okay. Until recently, I've always had a 90 degree end on my phones, but I might have to start carrying around a small case with me or get a 90 degree adapter.

Wal-Mart sells leather-like hard contact lenses cases which I used to store my Air Cushions in. It worked very well and was like two bucks.

Don't laugh but I tried out a set of skull candy's a year back and the best part of them is the little case they came with!

I'm still too hard on IEM's to invest in a good pair, I've gone through at least $100 worth of crappy IEMs this year already... but I keep the Grado's and the AT's in their boxes when not used.

In fact, my latest pair died this morning.. any recommendations for a new pair of el-cheap-o IEM's?

I suggest searching your answer on a different thread, but if you want an answer now, and not one you may like - try the Creative and Altec Lansimg IEM for under $100. Both are heavily discounted and you could get two for the mrsp of one.

Check out these:

Dirt cheap and could work well. I got that SanDisk mini-pouch for my Clip a while back, and it was a really high quality product.

My Etymotic Research, Inc. ER-4s are on a silicon fishbone. They typically are either in my computer case, or hanging from my iPod in my shirt pocket. I use my iPod Classics most of he time for extended listening, like on airplanes, or in the car hooked up the the car stereo. I SHOULD use the case they came in, and now that I am thinking about it, I may do that.

For my casual listening, I generally am using the iPhone, either its included iPod, or Pandora. For that, if I don't need isolation, I just use the poor Apple ear buds. They don't sound awful, but they don't cut out the outside noise, like the wife in the grocery store!

I also carry the Etymotic Research, Inc. HF5 (red) with me at all times. I use them if I need to use the phone in a noisy place, or for music with isolation.

To carry those two, I wrap the cord, starting with the plug, around two fingers, separated by about 1/8 inch. I then stuff the HF5s into the bottom of my case (one moment on that), and the Apple buds above them.

The case?

It is a very inexpensive magazine case for two double-double stack magazines. You know, magazines, for handguns.

Then in the front pouch I store my Surefire 6P tactical flashlight. I find a really bright, very small flashlight can be very useful, even if not in a gunfight.

The one I use is by BBC and costs well under $20. It has loops on the belt, so it won't snap off as would happen with a belt clip. Gun stores are full of these things. In place of the flashlight, it would hold any iPod except the Classic or iPhone. An AR-15 magazine pouch will carry any iPod or MP3 player.
