For the record: the LM7805 5 volt regulator on the MKIV board is capable of powering the γ1 DAC in configuration "E". I measured the current draw of the γ1 which is only 20ma. I bought a Neutrik RCA panel mount connector and modified the back panel of the MKIV to accommodate that connector and a 3PDT switch which is used to select between the standard analog input and the DAC. It sounds great! The γ1 seems to have a much larger soundstage than the analog headphone output of the Auzentech Forte.

Also, digital output from the Auzentech seems to not be vulnerable to GPU noise, which I was getting with the amplified headphone output.
