From MS1 to MS2? or port. amp?

I have the Aless/Grado MS1, and love them. But, if I have the cash available to move up to a MS2/i, would that be a good idea? Is the SQ jump from MS1 to MS2 worth the $$?

Or, would I do better spending the $$ on a nicer portable amp (than E5), like a Headroom Airhead or Little Dot Micro? Thanks.

The jump to the MS2 will be quite a bit more noticeable than a portable amp for the MS1. The MS2 does have a different sound signature than the MS1 and MSPro though.

Do you mean more akin to the SR-325, which many say is a bit harsher?

The MS-2 sounds more detailed, has better (deeper and more quantity) bass

IMO, the best price/performance in the grado/allesandro line up

I personally prefer the MS2 to the SR-325i's by a rather large margin. They are a better all rounder IMHO. Another thing is that the MS2 is more neutral than the SR-325i's and this help it with other genres.

They are a bit brighter, but not bothersome. I personally never get fatigued from Grado's as I'm not sensitive to the higher frequencies.

If I were to start over, the MS2 would be my choice. Better bass than the RS-1 and just kills electric guitar. Portables are overrated.

Compared to the MS-1 they are brighter, harsher, and more in your face. You may like them though. This is going by what I have read though. Ive only heard the MS-1.

If you're happy with how the MS1 sounds, just stick with it (heresy!) until you have enough to buy the MS2 and a modest desktop source + amp.

I didn't hear much improvement using my old MS1 with portable amps.

I personally don't think the MS-1 benefits much from amping. I tried it with BSG cmoy, PA2v2 and a friend's Audio-gd Compass. I could barely hear the difference, if theres any, I'd have to strain hard to hear it.

Then again, my opinions may not be credible due to the fact that I just started this hobby just this January. My ears still need some "training".. lol

I noticed a difference between my MS1's with onboard soundcard as a source and my MS1's with the Zero. But that's probably more a source difference than an amplification difference
