I need help deciding on which Ultrasone.

I have a pair of HFI-780s and they seem to be malfunctioning. No sound is coming from the right speaker. I don't know if it's the cable or the speaker and I lost the warranty info (don't even know if I registered them). They started acting this way when I started carring them in my backpack when I go to school.

Anyway, I think they sound awesome (not harsh at all) and I love them dearly. I just hated that I could not leave them on my ears long (they hurt me). This was keeping them from being perfect to me.

I was thinking of either getting another pair or a new HFI-580. Assuming I can get either of these cans for the same price (I can), which one do you prefer and why? I will use these with an ipod touch, sony walkman, and maybe sometimes with the fiio e5.

Please may you comment on each one's midrange, bass, comfort, and soundstage. I love clean punchy bass and I'm really a big fan of midrange where the vocals are present (as I also own a pair of se530s). I plan to listen to some good vocals as well as techno, hiphop, r&b, rock, and a little jazz.

Thanks!

You can try the PRO/PL-650, they sound a little different then the HFI series. With bigger sound stage and the S-Logic is more pronounced.

Thanks for your response. I'll consider the pro 650.
1.Do they have equal or better mids?

2.How is the bass with them in comparison?

3.Are they more comfortable?

4.Do you think I would really like them coming from the 780?
In what ways are they better than 780?

They have the same drivers, with a different Ohms 75 vs 35. The main/big different is in the construction of the cans. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/ult...arison-401879/

The Pro-900 is a interesting case, very balanced accept the annoying boost on the bass.

Love my PROline 650's - tight punchy bass, wide soundstage, non-fatigueing and quite comfortable for extended periods.

anyone care to comment on the pro900 vs denon d2000, regarding the mids? i find the d2000's quite recessed, does the pro900 perform better/much better in this area?
