Took the 3G deal. Would absolutely do it again. Bought mine with Graduation Funds (inc. my Acer D250 netbook).

If you need some help cracking/hacking it, I would be more than happy to offer advice (virtually impossible to brick your phone).

BTW: I highly recommend getting the Acer D250. Upgrading the RAM to 2GB is simple and makes it almost as good as a full sized computer in doing most anything outside of graphics (games, hi-def video). Once you have a smart phone you can actually "tether" your laptop to your phone and surf the net anywhere you have a cell phone connection. Right now, only a cracked/hacked iPhone lets you do this though OS3.0 enables it ATT hasn't released it on the network (along with MMS)....

erm actually pretty much any old phone you can tether, ive been doing it since 2001 and my T39. if its got bluetooth and its not an iphone then it works fine. actually you could do it before bluetooth was invented but that was also before gprs and was just so ungodly slow you didint ever want to

I was referring to the fact that he was looking at an iPhone and that if he wanted to do it with an iPhone he would need to crack/hack it.

I used to tether my old Sony and then later LG cu400 over bluetooth to 3G network (yes 3G has been around for ~3 years).

The draw on the network that iphones have is extensive, so that is why they limit things for iPhone users because they assume it to be more of an entertainment device than a work one like a BB or Palm or Windows mobile device.

Some phones with wifi will let you create your own wifi hotspot. (cracked iphone can do this).

Do it, if nothing else you will be left with a phone at the very least.

BTW: plans don't have to cost $100/month. $30/month on unlimited Data and then whatever minutes plan you want ($30-$50).

Dad just got one, I'm hoping he regrets it so I get it.

I just cracked open my 3GS today, so no I don't regret upgrading. I get lost very easily so having a gps+google maps with me at all times is a festivus miracle to me.

the downside is i have to get in the habit of keeping it charged.

I spent 5 hours on a bus from New York to DC today. The majority of which was spent communicating and web browsing via my Blackberry Storm. This caused me to miss out on the natural scenic beauty of New Jersey and Baltimore out of the bus window.

Do I regret owning and abusing my smart phone? Not in the least.

I've had a PDA before I ever had a cellphone (since the original Palm Pilot). Then when I started carrying around a cellphone, I carried both. I love combining the two. One less thing to carry. Of course downside is battery life. Less than half the battery life of the two combined, but it makes sense, two things occupying the same space.

And I have a grandfathered Sprint plan, so unlimited 3G Data and texting, and a phone plan all for less than $30/month after taxes.
