The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread - Page 57

Still loving my DT880/600. Definitely get the most head time out of all my current headphones. Yes, that includes HF-2 and K1000. I think it is partly due to the fact they are so comfortable, so I can just wear them whilst sitting at the computer without even having music playing. Maybe one day I will get a manufaktur recabled pair

Can you describe me differences between DT880 600 Ohm vs DT880 PRO 600Ohm version? I would also like to know how does DT990/600 and DT990 PRO/600 sound comparing to 880s. Actually I have DT880PRO 250 Ohm version which I like a lot, but Im thinking is it worth upgrade to 600Ohm versions I mentioned above?

Thanks!

No such thing as DT880/DT990 Pro 600ohm. Also, this may help you http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/513393/information-sonic-differences-between-dt770-dt990

Oh, my bad then. Ok I read that review and it looks like 990/600 could be better than 880/600? Is it noticeable difference in sound comparing to 880pro/250 in these 2 models or you need "good ears" to hear it?smily_headphones1.gif

Not sure, as I have heard only DT990 32ohm (way too much bass and treble for me), own the DT880/600 and also have heard the T1.

I would always opt for the 600ohm variant of any Beyerdynamic headphone. DT770/600, DT880/600 and DT990/600. Never tried the Pro versions, so I shouldn't really voice an opinion on any of those (would be based on others impressions).

Principally right. However, I personally could not hear any advantages of DT770 600 ohm version. The mids are still recessed, the bass is still of the slow boomy Denon sort. Guess the system suffers from the missing backwards fleece coating and is underdamped, hence the typical 600 ohm snappyness can not be heared.

The latest version (2005) I am talking about. I have never come across an older pair at the meets I have attended, nor do people seem to rave about the older models.

Hmm try the Vintage Beyer forum

I can provide a personal rave for my 1986 vintage DT880/600's (in Revox badged 3100 form)

But then I have not had the chance to compare to the later version.... I have compared them to Senn PXC450, PXC250, ATH-AD700 - and found them to be better than any of those.

Anyone wanna lend me their post 05 880/600's for a comparo?

There were some comparisons made in the Vintage Beyer forum if I remember correctly - outcome seemed to be (if I remember correctly) that the current ones have marginally more detail than the 80's version - but the 80's version were smoother.

You just can't beat top of the line Vintage HP's for Value though - I paid around 1/4 of what a new pair of DT880/600's would cost me for my vintage set - including the new "ear pillows" I needed to buy.

This made them half the price of my partners brand spanking new ATH-AD700 (she loves the purple too...)  ..... and it is definitely superior!

So impressed with these headphones...for $300 they are an excellent buy. I will one day get the T1s, but until I do, these will do very nicely.

The T1 is definetely not of everybody's liking. Make sure you can test them somewhere before you spend 1K for something that keeps you underwhelmed.

I have heard the T1 with the SPL Auditor and a good source and it didn't impress. Sure, it sounded good, but no way near good enough to justify the amount it costs.

I heard a very expensive Stax Omega once and great though it was it didn't impress at all. Such a boring presentation...
