I'm not too sure that the Vali outputs enough voltage to drive the 600 Ohm version, anybody have any practical experience?

I'm sure it does.

If you don't mind me asking, are there any specs for the Vali's output?

Maximum Power, 600 ohms: 115mW RMS per channel

source: http://schiit.com/products/vali

They would need arround 0.40mW to get to 90dB (which is already loud) or 12.6mW to get to 105dB.

Just ordered the Vali+Modi combo. Returning the FIIO E09K+E17 because I've had nothing but problems with them.

Welcome to the rabbit hole of chasing quality 6SN7's. biggrin.gif

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it. :beerchug:

I don't know if the Chinese take weekends off, but if they do, then it was more like 2-day shipping. I expected 2-3 weeks!

RE: distortion: It is interesting... apparently our ears love it. I have plug-ins for my mixing/editing software that do this -- on purpose. They have names like "Analog Channel" or "Retro Tape", etc.  They come close, but so far real tubes and tape beat algorithms.

Here's an example of a song where the 880's treble rips my face off. I never really noticed it with other equipment.

Here's the link if you have itunes on your computer:

Do you agree?

Hmmm, what kind of problems did you have with your E17 + E09K?

I used to own both and never had any troubles.

Yeah, I agree.

The ugly truth is that we actually like distortion.

I think the hard core objectivists need to get over it.

We like fat.

We like alcohol.

We like sugar.

And we like distortion!

You should try my docking fix in my Sig and see if it helps any.

Ouch!

Not good!

To be fair, I only used it with Windows XP.

And I'm no software trouble shooter!   :o

Thanks but my Vali+Modi should arrive tomorrow and I've heard that it's a better combo for the DT 880 anyways.

On one hand, it's a very subtle thing. On the other, this is unlike anything I've ever experienced and at this point in my life it's very worth it. Well, there's my vague mini-review.

Thanks for share your impressions, what about power output?
