Ordered pair of DT-880 pros this morning for my first set of (Over $50) headphones, as well as a FiiO E7/E9 combo.

Looking forward to getting them.

Wow! You're really jumping into it! I hope you like it. What have your previous headphones sounded like, very bassy?

I've really only had two headphones before, previously just using no-name iems; Bose AE (Old version, bought in Central America in a tax-free zone for $'50'ish) and then ATH-M30's (Huge improvement over the Bose, of course), which I'm currently using while waiting for my new setup.

I wouldn't consider my previous ones bassy, however, I don't really have anything to compare it to.

The 880s will blow them all out of the water. Welcome to the club!  :dt880smile:

I heard that the E7/9 is decent with the dt880, however, I doubt that it could be near that good? *No "gasp" emoticon"*

The first step is listening to them on the gear of mere mortals, before ascending the mountain of Summit-Fi. I can assure you that even on rather pedestrian gear they sound just terrific. :dt880smile:

Well it turns out that my DT880 does indeed have a dead driver out of the box, so I'll be returning it to Amazon. This entire experience has been a bloody nightmare, not at all a good first Beyer experience. I don't know if I'll ever want to try the DT880 again after all this.

I have a UE6000 in the mail, I'll probably just stick to that for now for my desktop needs.

hey guys

may I ask you, what do you think about using beyerdynamic 880 600ohm version with soundblaster zxr for gaming and watching movies on my PC ? I am asking becouse I can have them for a realy low price from a friend but I dont know if my sound card is powerful enough to get the best out of these headphones (although there is even a 600ohm gain option in soundblaster control panel).

what are your opinions on this ? or is there some better headphones for gaming and my card ?

well I had a pretty bad experience with fiio products...so I'm not going to comment. But BUT...as Argyris said...It is just an overall amazing headphone. Prepare to be blown away.

For me:

1. Bifrost + wooaudio wa3+ ----> dt880 sounded better than the hd800..just because hd800 is so amp finicky.

2. After finding an awesome dac/amp at long long last..hd800 has...well...better soundstage and transparency...but everything else is shockingly good. I know some say the dt880 imaging isn't that good...but I beg to differ :D so yah

I would keep my dt880s no matter how much I uprade just to prove how amazing these headphones are haha

But That's all just in my opinion.

With the Burson Conductor SL and the TI DAC installed, I really couldn't tell much difference between it and the E17/E09K combo. I don't have the Golden Ears that some here have... biggrin.gif So before you slag off the FiiO as subpar, give it a listen... The Burson is $1800 to put it in perspective, with the ESS DAC installed it is a different story though.

I am a proud new owner of the DT 880 Premium (250 ohm).  Currently, my setup is laptop -> Hifimediy Sabre DAC -> Fiio E11 amp -> DT 880.  Is my setup pretty good for the relatively low cost?  Not that I am unhappy with the sound, but what would be the cheapest way to noticeably upgrade?  The Schiit Vali amp seems promising.  Has anyone been able to try it with the DT 880 yet?
