Not to be rude or anything but an E17... Really?

Time to up your game on the amp to match the gear, Cypher Labs, Centrance or even an ALO would be much more fitting. biggrin.gif[/quote]

tongue.gif it was an entry level purchase. Not to expensive. Bought it used from a good guy here. But what I liked about it was the ability to bump the treble. I like a little bump in the treble. And it was enough output for the 880 250ohm. I'm definitely going to be looking into your suggestions though. I'm now hooked on this stuff.

Only other DAC I have bought before was the NuForce uDac-2 for my laptop.

What kind of improvements would I see going with a different amp?

I have an E17.

It drives my DT880/600 Ohm cans.

It works.

It may not be the ultimate DAC/Amp, but for the money, no complaints!

OTOH,

I also have an iBasso D12 DAC/Amp.

I've never really used that amp to drive my DT880/600, but I have compared the two DACs.

The iBasso has less mud, less grit, less grain.

It just sounds more transparent than the E17 DAC.

The E17 DAC is almost unlistenable when I use my Stax SRS-2170 'phones.

The iBasso just sounds more like music via my SRS-2170.

I had the e17 before....returned it the day I bought it lol

no offence to you guys but for me it was....a bad experience.

Why?

1. when I was listening to this one song...percussion comes in...all hell breaks loose....I was like huh?!?! was something wrong with my ciems?

2. That sibilance. Listening to adele was unbearable. her voice was just ughh and the sibilance was just incredible...

Yeah...it could just be me..but my experience with the e17 was horrible.

Unless it was live or maybe from blu-ray, Adele's CDs are schiit mastering. They've brickwalled it. Link 1 Link 2 Link 3

It was a direct rip from her albums :D

Album doesn't specify a format. That's like saying you ripped it from her voice.

What I'm saying is that the CDs, which were burned from the album have schiit mastering. So it doesn't matter the format that you get. They are all copied from the schiity master.

I understood what you said...im just saying i had an album rip probably meant I had schiit mastering version lol. I always thought her songs sounded a tad weird, but I never really bothered to look the subject up :o

Ahh, I thought you were defending the recording that you had. My bad. lol dt880smile.png Her live tracks from the bonus sounds better tho for some odd reason. Maybe someone else mastering?

I don't really watch her live stuff....so I wouldn't know. For me its just them cymbals/bass drums/her high notes which just sounds a bit weird for me. But hey I'm getting my modded dt880s back tomorrow :D:D:D:D

That is something to be excited about.

Those are the elements that usually suffer the most from dynamic compression/brickwalling. The cymbals are a transient element with a sharp, loud attack that gets hammered down by the compression; bass drums are similar in that regard; and high notes will tend to be at climaxes in music and therefore will be louder, so they will be cut down more by the compressor.

If you want to hear a bad brickwall job, try the 2007-2008 Genesis remasters. Unlistenable rubbish. I suspect that the engineer, Nick Davis (who had actually done a decent job producing a few of their later albums back in the 80s/early 90s), might have even used autotune on Collins, which is itself unforgivable. Add to that the rest that's wrong and it just gets worse.

No problem, since you had the Porsche down to the custom shop for a new cold air intake and some go faster tail lights... I wondered why you stopped in at the Wal*Mart for the Chong Li Zing tires when the Pirelli P-Zero's are really what you should have.

Better build quality, better audio specifications, less coloration, cleaner sound and so on...

Sorry, Saren. Just thought I'd amend your post to bring it more into line with my own opinion of myself.

YUP

I've said this or rather noticed this my self a few times. her cd's are well schiity sounding! Mr E what are the names of her Live Blu Ray performances?

Nice link and it just reminded me why I don't watch TV... EVERYTHING SOUNDS LIKE SCHIIT except those old movies!  Watched the Princess Bride and UGH the dynamics where awesome! ACTION SCENES WHERE LOUD, intimate scenes where quiet! I love a good dynamic movie sound track

Adele link. Some of her albums have live bonus tracks which sounds better. Her vocals are less compressed sounding and natural. Tv is good when done right. Cowboy Bebop soundtrack is awesome if you love jazz/blues. I love the soundtrack to FLCL as well. I need to break out the Pillows albums for a listen. redface.gif

When listening to Adele causes depression from the digital clipping every time she sings, try some Asa or Melody Gardot. Ps. Love my dt800s, I'm currently trying to build a starving student amp to go with them.
