Yea, I wish they had a removable cable on them.  Would be nice and probably less likely to need a recable in the future.

Simple enough to put an XLR socket / plug on if you have basic soldering skills .....

Does anyone else besides me wish that the DT880 or DT990's had a removable cable like the sennheiser headphones do. Would be nice to put a Chris himself cable on it I think.

Love the cans!   Thats something I'm going to have to do when it comes time to recable.  How do the XLR DT880s sound in comparison to a stock set of 880s?

Those cants look amazing! Why couldn't they come standard like that. I would be too nervous to do a mod like that. These headphones aren't cheap and if you mess something up your screwed. Has anyone made a guide to do that mod?

Well for me personally "Wire" does not have a sound nor do the Tiny xlr sockets...

So there is no difference as far as I can tell, but then again I don't hear into the MHz range like those balanced Audiophiles do... :D

The beyerdynamic drivers have little tangs that are just pressed into the plastic, the headphone wire and voice coil wires attach to these tangs. Once you apply the heat to them they will pull out if the plastic very easily. liquidzoo and myself both broke a voice coil wire on one of the drivers. These wires are smaller than a hair and melt when you heat them with the iron directly. Luckily we were able to both salvage our broken wires and didn't have to buy a driver from beyerdynamic. Which are $80 and hopefully you get one that sounds the same as the other. :D

Easy enough mod, there is not much room behind the driver and you have to be really careful of the driver wires.

Does anyone have a pair of balanced dt880s that they would be willing to lend or sell to me? I am looking for a pair to compare with the hd600s, hd650s, and k702, all balanced and drive by my nfb-10es2. Please PM me if you do!

Balancing the 880s will add nothing, trust me on this

I disagree. out of both my db1 pb1 N agd 10es2 the balanced beyer had a better channel seperation n tighter presentation over Se

again the Se out on both amps sounded a little veiled compared to the balanced out.

The same can b said my my he 400 on the same source n amp. With balanced being a clear improvement for both headphones.

Although does the iMod support a bit perfect digital stream into a dac... or r u still using a analog source into the dac. I have my dpubts on se to balanced analog converters

How did you volume match?  Did you compare blind (ie get someone to switch)?

Yea I used an SPL meter, and had my father switch it for me

Seriously let's remember that we all have different hearing levels, and different ear... shapes? ANd apprently the unique shape of our ears does affect our ability to hear minuete details, so what worked for me might not work for you, although keep in mind I'm a bit of a treble head so that might have something to do with it all as well

either way, there are others who feel the same as I do, with the Balanced Dt 880 being a little tighter than the unbalanced

and for the record [I was totally shocked by this] but the w1000x has more depth SE than the DT 880 does balanced... and that's out of my hm801... I was really shocked buy how well layered the w1000x was out of the hm 801, so I don't think that ALL SINGLE END SUCKS, it just seems to b worth the trouble for the improvements

I finally just ordered the DT880 Premium (250ohm) off Amazon.  Been waiting for the price to drop from $349.  Picked them up at $244, which is as low as I've seen them in recent weeks.  Should be about 2-3 weeks before they get here.

Very nice find! Normally I recommend the Pros because you can get them so cheap ($214 right now on Amz BTW, almost the lowest ever) but at that price the Premiums are a great buy! Congrats. You're going to loooooove them.
