I'm a bit like that too. I just can't come at EQ as EQ, though I have no qualms about ordinary tone controls. At the moment I use -2db on a Marantz SR4023 stereo receiver to tame the treble; tonight, after reading devhen's post, I might try +2 on the bass as well. But EQ? Nah, I'll pass.

Agree'd I don't mind a hard ware eq, turn a knob adjust some resistance and BAM color, but using software to eq has never struck my fancy, and I do eq the mids a touch on the Dt 990 for edm and yea it is WOW, it's why the 990s are like my end game DnB can xD [I allow mah self to eq them]

The Dt 990 is like that sexy friend of yours who has WAY to many tatoo's [and I really don't like tatoo's] but she's just to damn awesome with those tats, so you know screw it, we shall make an exception!

Speaking of which, and shame one my for being so dense,

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

very pretty girl walks into wal mart each night [and I work third shifts there] and she is [go figure] hair dye'd, tatoo's a plenty but NO make up [wait what], oh and ofc she's very attractive (whoa I spelled that right yea) Anyways, she walks into Wal Mart about once a week, and [I work in Produce] I swear she spend like 30 minuete's looking at some list... and then starring at salad and OF COURSE, she is smiling at me like EVERY 5 mins. Stupid me ONLY does the usual "Miss can I help you find anything" bs I do with EVERY woman... that and I'm cleaning so you know address the customer and get  to work. It dawns on my yesterday that maybe she's trying to get me to TAKE some damn action... no one needs to spend 30 minuete's looking at the same bag of salad. Only to leave the area and then come back 10 minuete's later and linger around. As always, that occurs on me when she's checking out 45 feet away from me *face palm*

That sound... dang it guys I found mah DT 990 gal In real life :D, I totally have to find some non audiophilishly geeky way to say something... and ivory skinned girl with a Spiderman tatoo on her calf has to be pretty chill!

Funny story... that we/I talk about women, tatoo's and eq'ing the Dt 990 in the same 24 hour period... it MUST BE A GIFT sent forth from the GOD's of AUDIO...

Well - sadly my DT880 600ohm just sold (locally in NZ).  So having a last short listen this evening, then packaging them tonight for their new owner.  2nd set of DT880s I've bought and sold - and listening to them again tonight I wonder if (as some stage in the future) I'll end up with them yet again

Truly are magic headphones - especially coupled with a good OTL tube.

I shall miss them.

I'm thinking of getting a HE-400 and/or HD600, DT 880. Basically I'm rockin Sennheiser HD 518's at the moment, but find that they do not do my music justice. I listen to Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Metalcore, Hardcore Punk. But also Trance, House, Techno, Soundtrack Classical, Ambient Electronic, Acoustic Indie, Chillwave/Glo Fi recordings.

I've heard the DT880, HD600 before just not the HE-400. I've heard the HE-400 is fairly heavy and can be uncomfortable if you have a weak neck. I'm fairly petite and definitely do not have a strong neck, so that may be an issue.

Anyway what I've come to ask is does anyone know if the Magni/Modi pair match well with the DT880 and should I get the 600 or 250 ohm model for that combo.

I'm thinking the 880 would be the go for Ambient, Soundtracks and maybe acoustic. The HE-400 I've heard does pretty well for metal and aggressive rock for what I'm looking for (non bright/fatiguing sound for already up front music)

joining the head ache club. got the pro's and getting vicious headaches which come on quick with wear and then last a long time (probs' made worse by some new meds i'm on to). Headache is right at the top of the head in the middle - pretty much where the band sits. time to stretch these.

Quick question: has anyone tried the faux leather replacement pads with the 880? They sell for anything from $17 to $30 on Ebay and look to be well made. Just wondered if anyone's tried them and, if so, if they sound any different to stock.

Buy the Dt 880 PRO $250, the 600 ohm is NOT worth buying till you own a Powerful OTL Tube

BUY THE PRO 250ohm xD, and love it for ever

also... guys do we have another gal joining head fi :D that's so awesome. Go with the Dt 880s though, they are tougher and more comfy than thean the HD600, and TRUST ME the Pro's aer UBER comfy [the Preumim Headband is bleh imo] so GO Beyer Dt 880 PRO :3

The differences between the 250ohm and 600ohm are very subtle. You're better off with the 250ohm as they're that much easier to drive, and also cheaper. As Mshenay said, only get the 600ohm if you have a very powerful amp.

Good luck!

I just bought some this week so I should know soon! In fact they're supposed to be here today so I'll let you know. I've heard good things about them and I've heard they improve the bass response. FYI, with the velours it is the 990 version you want (EDT 990 V) but with the "softskin" pads the DT880 is meant to use the 770 version (EDT 770 S).

EDT 770 S

Ear cushions pair, softskin, for DT 550, DT 880, DT 880S and DT 770M

EDT 990 S

Ear cushions pair, softskin, for DT 330, DT 660, DT 990

Thought I would point that out since it can be confusing and both sets of pads look basically identical in pictures. I picked up the EDT 770 S from Sonic Electronix for $26.99 shipped.

Those aren't Beyerdynamic pads though I'm sure they'll fit and they'll probably work alright but they look like they are lower quality than the official ones, especially the second link. I would look into authorized Beyerdynamic dealers in Australia and ask about part # EDT 770 S. You can probably find it at a similar price or slightly more than those ones. For reference checkout this pic of the EDT 770 S. It looks to be higher quality faux leather and have more padding than those others:

:O pad swaps for the Dt 880 SHAME on you, just kidding.

All leather pads would be very cool! The velours are comfy, but not as comfy as Lambskin Leathers :D [looking at you terribley warm and thick [yet cool and comfy] Mad Dog]

Also I'm LEARNING PROGRAMMING... with RAPTOR as an intro into bigger and better things to come

If you get the 880s, I would pass on the M&M Stack. Or at least not the Magni portion. The Modi is fantastic for the money. I found pairing the Magni with my 880s too bright and made the highs a little too artificial for my liking. Objective2 is an alternative for nearly the same price if you find a used one on the For Sale threads. It's a touch more neutral and was what I used prior to getting my tubeamp. M-Stage is also a good option as it's a little darker. Would tame the highs more and thicken up the mids. Welcome to HF and sorry about your wallet. wink.gifdt880smile.png
