I guess that's always going to be a matter of personal taste. I personally like their understated looks quite a bit, in a form follows function kind of way. I can see somebody not liking them, though. The yokes are quite prominent in the design, and it definitely has a bit of that old school look. They do look kind of funny when worn, though.

Yeah I agree they can look funny when warn and they're not very stylish by modern standards I guess. I've never been much for looks... their design reminds me of old school German engineering and that's a great look if you ask me. :)

im not that concerned about the looks,I won't wear them outside, you guys should try to wear them and stand in front of a mirror. Exactly, see what I'm talking about ? Lol.

Oh and Chris, when will your crush on Monica Bellucci end? xD

Why does my crush on Monica Bellucci have to end?

I've done just that (the mirror). To be honest, I don't think any headphone looks very good worn. The DT880 is especially weird, though. There's something almost insectoid about the look of those rounded cups over the ears. It puts me in the mind of giant gray compound eyes that have suddenly sprouted where my ears should be.

Yeah I figured you were mostly talking about how they look when worn. They can look strange sometimes but overall I think they look pretty good. I just checked myself out in the mirror and both me and the DT880s look !@#$%^ great. pfffft. :P

Well then I guess I'm just not sexy enough for the DT880's haha tongue.gif

My DT880's look wicked when worn, I really like their looks and have worn them out side.

The HFI-780's with the HM5 pads are even better, I have had people ask what they were and to try them out, then they get this big smile on their face when the Bass drops... Pure Priceless.

Now my comfort moded Monoprice 8323's look funny when worn as the headband gets completely square on a big head, the wife laughs every time I put them on... With the best sound you'll find for $20 anywhere I just ignore... biggrin.gif

I'd wear TakeT's H2+'s outside if there was a portable amp, flip the doors open and the BatPure sound would flow! I can see it now, sitting in Starbucks with the TakeT's on surrounded by Beats Monkeys. biggrin.gif

I used to wear an SRH440 out in public with no shame, and (long) before that a V700 held together with duct tape, Gorilla glue, and magic. I wouldn't feel weird wearing the DT880 in public; it just wouldn't be the ideal headphone for that, given its open design and the rather low level I get from it on my Clip Zip.

I wish I saw more people wearing brands like AKG, Beyerdynamic, and Audio technica etc.. outside instead of skull candy and beats.

I am pretty excited as I placed an order for the DT880s 250 ohm premium version.  Also purchased the Just Mobile HeadStand.

This will be my first pair of good headphones.  Originally thought I would just go straight into the HD800s but figured I'd start with these due to the excellent reviews and price.  Also since I am a newb I want to learn more and figure out which headphone sound I prefer.  After all, trying out all type of gear is a ton of fun!

The amp/DAC combo to be used is the Audiolab M-DAC with the latest John Westlake firmware.

I swear I saw somebody on my campus walking around with a Q701. Either that or there's another full-sized, neon green headphone with round earcups--it was a bit far away from me, and I only got a glimpse for a few seconds, so I couldn't tell for sure.

I've seen V-Moda stuff on multiple occasions, as well as Skullcandy Aviators (which are actually supposed to be good). I even saw an HD280 and a couple HD25-1-ii's, but I'll bet those were just journalism students or something.

Thanks for the Lake People amp suggestion, any input on how the O2 or Matrix would compare to the G103?
