It is - isn't it?

It's like riding in a BMW rather than a Mini...

So I got my PPA v2 amp back today and it sounds quite good with the DT880. I know people mostly recommend tubes but I like my SS and it is easier to maintain and don't have to bother with rolling and all that stuff. The PPA v2 definitely improves on the amp compared to my dac/amp and I think the setup I have now makes for a pretty good low priced option for many headphones.

Yeah - I'm not a fan of rolling amps...

Hey there guys.

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I've been enjoying my music through a set of felt modded JVC RX700's for over a year now, and I've decided to make the jump to some 600ohm DT880's. The RX700's have served me really well for my first pair of cans, but I've been fishing around Head-fi for too long lately and it seems my wallet has bent to my will! smily_headphones1.gif

My Beyer's will be arriving within a week and they will be paired up with my Fiio E9/E7 combo. I'll be making more of an effort to contribute to the community from now on!

@ Impulse: I hope you don't mind that I stole one of your pictures for my avatar. Excellent photography right there!

Hello friend.
Welcome to Beyer-lovers community.

I wonder how will these sound will E7+E9 combo, i will be glad if you would post your impressions.

Your opinion will be great because you are switching from cheapest gear to premium gear + Amp.

Regarding photos, no problem with it :-)  I am glad you like them :)

Now that I got some money saved up I've been researching into amps to pair with my 880. I’ve narrowed down my choices to the Darkvoice/LaFigaro 336, Woo Audio 3 and Bottlehead Crack with Speedball.  It seems that the 336 and WA3 pair well with the 880’s, but I can’t find much info about the Bottlehead when paired with our headphones.  Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks.

Wa3 is pretty expensive, compared to the 336.

If i would you, i would consider Little Dot MK IV SE

Its one awesome amp for these Beyers with quality compared to the amps that costs twice more!

I'm looking around for a new pair of headphones and have been drawn to these from lots of good reviews.  I currently have a pair of Grado HF-1's that I really love and run them through a Woo Audio 6se amp.  I know the Woo will drive the Beyerdynamics beautifully but wondering if anyone is a Grado-lover that also likes the sound signature of the DT880?

They're actually pretty comparable in price.  I would probably pick up a used WA3.  A 336 would be about $350 shipped I think.  And with the Bottlehead I have a friend that can help me put it together.

The LD sounded boring with the DT880 imo. Not nearly as spectacular as with the solid state I now own.

I cant argue with you as nature and color of sound is clearly subjective.

That's true.

I must say that the LD did bring some colour in the music, but not much energy. At a meet most people told me they thought the DT880 (03 version) sounded too dull with the Little Dot.

That's interesting opinion.

BTW i have '05 version.

Well, i think it is hard or impossible to advise this or that amp if you haven't heard all of them.

And even if you do, there isn't guarantee that what you heard and what you liked / disliked will another user like or dislike.

It is much more like blind tip.

Yeah, every amp have some, smaller or bigger characteristic which you would find...but that's only small portion of type of sound that it will produce.

I'm getting my HR-2 ( Ray Samuels) amp and I can't wait to test the amp with the DT-880 (600) - I've been told there is a special synergy between these....
