How would you guys characterize the main difference between the 770 and 880? I have a pair of 770/250 right now which I am thinking about selling to fund the purchase of some 880/600's. From what I have read some say the midrange has better presence in the 880 but less bass than the 770 and that the highs are pretty much the same.

Thanks for your advice on this guys - much appreciated. I definitely want to hear the 30% I'm missing so I will look into these less expensive tube amps like the LD-MK3. Now since I have two separate pieces of equipment driving the headphones, should I adjust the gain on my Xonar? Right now I have it set to the 600 OHM settings. Should I drop this to the 32 OHM setting and let the LD-MK3 do its job?

Is there a difference in sound in the dt880/600 Manufaktur and the "regular" dt880/600? I'm thinking about ordering a pair from B&H for 250$ + shipping to canada, which seems to be quite cheap as well (10$ plus 10$ tax and duties), but is the manufaktur version different sounding?

drop it down to zero gain and let the MKIII do all the job.

I run the STX, and have fed the DT880/600's with it. It's good... real good, but these really do need a bit more, and a different synergy. Also the recommendation of the LD-MKIII seems to be agreed upon by many (or for a bit more money, the Darkvoice 337 or WA6).

X3 for me...and FWIW, I did see a Woo3 on sale in the F/S forum for only $300. A great match for the 600 ohm beyers!

^ $300 for a WA3!?! That's a crazy good deal not to pass up. I would seriously consider that amp if I were you guys.

I went that route and basically the 880 was what I wanted the 595s to be. ;-)

Hi

Any of you out there knows if the E7+E9 combo is sufficient to drive the DT880 600 ohm?

I have ordered the E7+E9 combo and DT880 600 ohm from Amazon.

Would like to know if i have made a mistake trying to drive the DT880 600 ohm with the E7+E9 combo.

Many thanks.

I have this equipment and I feel 100% confident in saying that the E7/E9 combo works very well with the dt880/600s and can power them without any issue.  I prefer tubes with the 880 but the E7/E9 still sounds great with it and has no issue with power.  You should be very pleased with this setup.  hope this helps...

in europe the dt880/600 is 299euros. Compared to the hd-650 and the k-701 i found this pretty expensive frown.gif Now with the xmas coupon and the 15% off should i buy or should it or wait frown.gif ?

I think when you order straight from Beyer they are ~250€... To be honest, if I could only one pair of phones it would probably be the DT880s. Why? Because they are super comfy, you can listen to them all day and they sound phenomenal. It's a great choice, 250€ well spent.

I'm about to buy a pair - can't wait!

I heard the DT880s ( 600 ohms) with the SPL Auditor today but I must say I am not sure the synergy was the best I could have with the headphones. I was really surprised because I thought the Auditor was supposed to be great...Can anyone tell me why that combination may not sound so good? Don't get me wrong it was damn good but I didn't feel it make the cans really shine.....

Also - anyone care to share amps that belong with the DT880's ( 600 ohms)??

Amps that can handle 600 ohms comfortably and sounds awesome...
