I don't like doing reviews so I just played the first 30 seconds of the Last Flowers to the Hospital by Radiohead. I like the 600 ohm better, the piano seems a lot lighter. If anyone wants me to actually do a comparison I canbiggrin.gif

No problem, really.

 

I didn't see anyone else mention that they'd bring a DT880 600, but then... I think I'd see one or two lying around randomly anyway, based on the scale of the meet and how many people are coming.

I have this DAC paranoia now after the Modi, since everyone seems to rave about it as the best in class amidst my personal disappointment. Are there any Xonar users out there that can compare their experiences between their sound cards and the FiiO DAC's? That's the only real point of reference I have right now. 

I'm not super thrilled about the FiiO especially since it died on me on day two. It seems like people regard it as an "OK entry level thing", but since I'm sending it back anyway I'd be willing to spend a little more on something better.

Is the only place to get that Figaro eBay? And is that thing as huge as it looks? And and is it pretty well regarded around here? I don't see much about it.

I got the La Figaro direct from La Figaro.
Yes, it's pretty big, it makes the E09k look very small.
Look around, it has some fans in the DT880 250 and 600 Ohm crowd.
Most people roll in NOS tubes.

The FiiO stuff is great for the money, but I would think something like a Cambridge DacMagic plus would embarrass it.
The Modi was really designed to a price point, like the FiiO equipment.

Thanks for getting back to me, Chris.

 

Would you recommend any other amps to me? I would be using this at work so having a gigantic light bulb on my desk might be a bit much :) 

 

Also how would you say something like the AudioEngine D1 compares to the DacMagic or the Modi (so I get a sense of either end of the spectrum)?

 

Would it actually be more beneficial for the time being to get a good DAC like the DacMagic and run a replacement E9K until I have some saved up cash for something fancier?

I have the Beyerdynamics DT880 PRO 250 ohms along with FiiO E07K.
The ones who had this cans and also the 600 ohms version can you tell me if I can it deserves to sell this cans and take the 600 ohms ?

 

Are the differences so high ?

The pro model has alot of clamp force unless you have streched them out and this makes them sound different than the premium 250 and 600ohm. The difference on the 250 premium and 600 is not much and a debatable thing, often things like synergy with what amp you use can make the 250 or 600 the best.

With a powerful amplifier the difference will be smoother treble and mids and tighter bass with 600 ohm. I am not sure if your amp is good enough to give sufficient voltage to 600 ohm version.

But the difference is big enough to deserve to pass from 250 ohms to 600 ohms ?

It depends. If you also need a new amp then it wouldn't be a cheap affair. The difference in my opinion is quite small. It is there but not that huge.
