I've used my E17 with my 880/600 and it sounds great. They sound fine even out of my iPad 4. Any amp will be an upgrade for these, but they will obvious benefit from a better amp than an E11 or E17.

I've tried it's cousin, the E17, with my 600 Ohm DTs.

I'm not big on this combo, it often sounds a bit mushy and clipped, maybe I listen too damn loud?

But it is infinitely better than the headphone jack on my HP notebook.

I do like the E17 + E09K with my 600 Ohm '880s. No real serious reservations there, especially for the $$$

Tried some extended comparisons between the E17 and E09K headphone amp (using the DAC in the E17) with my 600 Ohm headphones.

I no longer think I can hear much of a difference between the two, but I still have a slight preference for the E09K. Maybe the E09K sounds a little bit warmer, a little fuller in the bass. I don't think I could spot the difference in a blind test.

No too sure what I was drinking thinking before!

These cans will really surprise you. They're always pulling more tricks out of their hat when I feed 'em a good song. I love them. More than my HD650, I think.

I can't find a flaw on these except for some genres I want more bass impact, but that's what closed cans are for heh. Everything sounds so airy and delicious. I find the trebIe just right, everything is well balanced, but I still find the vocals slightly recessed in some tracks. I think I really found my cans until I can drop $1k+. Next audio upgrade is a better amp, I feel the little amp in teh D1 pushes enough juice for me to more than  love these, but then that leaves me thirsty to see if they scale as well with a nice tube amp as everyone says.

I really want to try HD6XXs still though. Just to feel a warmer sig with more mids, who knows what I'll like better.

What AMP/DAC stand alone devices with optical S/PDIF Input can you recommend me with the DT 880/600's, based on your experience? Price class should be about 150-300$, or max. 250€ as I live in germany. I read about FiiO's, Audio GD NFB's or Maverick TubeMagic's but just can't pick one of them. I don't want to buy anything wrong and after almost one week of countless hours of reseraching I have no patience left anymore, to work myself in this huge topic of how amps/DAC's work and what tubes I should exchange to get better SQ etc.

Purposes will be as good as everything: Movies, Music and Gaming.

I use the Audioengine D1 and feel that it's more than enough, take it with a grain of salt though, since I don't have much experience

I use my Lyr which makes them sound amazing, but I'm not sure what mixes well with them around the $200 price range. I went from an E17 to a Lyr so... yeah. Haven't had much head time with the E17 and DT880.

If I ever upgrade, the Lyr is what I'm looking at... It's kinda expensive for my standards right now, but I feel like if I get one I won't worry to spend $1k on another amp in some time...

If I ever buy another amp it's going to be in 5-10 years. I consider the Lyr to be an endgame amp. I can honestly say I do not desire any new equipment. Maybe some new headphones in a year or so... T1 anyone???

+1 Dt880s with the Lyr is fantastic.
