Wow... I'd ask them for money off, just for the inconvenience.

Not so, I have the 250 ohm, and I'm wishing for the added warmth of the 600 version... granted I can Eq my 250's to be a little warmer but... I don't like eq'ing all that much my self.
Non the less the 250 ohm are really very wonderful! With a good DAC and Amp they sound great. Plus at one point the 600 ohm version was like $10 more than the 250 ohm ones :O
still.. a 600 ohm is in my future >.> sadly the Wii U has new Monster Hunter so... poor 600ohm dt 880s will have to w8!

Added warmth...added warmth. I don't recall anyone saying the 600 ohm had added warmth, or indeed that it was established that it sounded significantly different to the 250 ohm at all. Some think so, some don't, but added warmth...hmm.
Anyway, I have the 250 ohm version and I should have thought it was warm enough.

I had both - and they are virtually identical to my ears. If you want to add euphonic warmth to the mid-range, either EQ or go tubes. Love my 880s with the LD MKIV. Ironic thing is that I could have kept the 250ohm - but I had to try the 600's to see if there was a difference.
Might be slightly smoother top end on the 600s - but I realise that is probably placebo rather than fact
.

Either it's due to the fact that I have the Lyr now, or the 600ohm really sound that much different -- but I hear a very noticeable difference. The bass is a bit punchier, vocals are FANTASTIC (biggest change imo) and treble is just a tad smoother. I think there's definitely a difference between the 250 and 600 ohm.

Did you manage to AB side by side, and was the volume matched ........ ?

Are we talking 2005 aka Premium model as when I had two, 250 Ohm version dis sound less bassy and quite brighter, 600 Ohm was butter smooth in comparison.
Sold 250 Ohm within a week in disgust. My 600 Ohm is Manufaktur though, not sure if that contributed to the difference.

Mine was 250 Pro (purchased new in 2011) vs current 600 ohm Premium purchased 2nd hand - but is definitely later model (so post 2005).
I was expecting big differences - but there really wasn't. I also find that when people make the comparisons, they're going from auditory memory (never accurate), unlikely to be volume matched, and in Yokken's case (above), he was commenting that the Lyr used with the 600ohm "could be" making the difference.
It's a tube amp - of course it's going to be different. Hence warmth/smoothness comments. Would have been interesting if he'd been able to compare the two side by side with same amp and volume matched .....
The problem is that it's not easy to make a side by side comparison with everything matched - so we make generalisations that the 600 is vastly superior ..... when in reality .......
I seem to remember there being debates in the past about the 600 vs others.
Anywhere - in my limited experience - there is not a huge difference. Anyone buying should just get the impedance value to match their source.
Would you guys recommend the 600ohm version for mixing/mastering?

Amazon, of course, is paying all postage. I'm a software engineer, but even you could afford this transaction with Amazon doing all the spending :-P
