I had a question regarding the DT880. I'm looking for a headphone for rock/metal (I dislike grado's) and it seems to match my preferences perfectly since I tend to prefer neutral mids and emphasized highs since I'm a treblehead (As for bass, I don't mind how much there is as long as it isn't too light or too bloated). The DT880's seems to match my sound preferences perfectly, however I keep reading about how it sounds "boring". Do you guys think it will sound boring for things like rock and metal? Many people told me the DT990 is a lot better for rock, so am I better off with the DT990 despite the DT880 matching my preferences better? These two headphones seems to be the only ones in this price range with the amount of treble I want, so I would like to keep it between these two.

You can use what ever headphone you want with any kind of music , what matter is that you like it at the end . 

I enjoyed Metal with K702 and DT-880/600 ohms ... (DT-990 is fine but too much V shaped for me) .

DT880's aren't boring at all, in fact, those headphones were among the most enjoyable and versatile I had ever used. People who call them "boring" haven't used really boring headphones, or they had bought some high-end stuff which is simply different class altogether. Try out some Sennheiser HD555/558/595 , AKG K601, Shure SRH840, now those I can call boring headphones indeed.

600 ohm model, I chose 880.

Hi guys,  I'm looking to purchase an amp and I need advice.  I have the DT880 600 and I've been using it w/ my Apogee Duet.  I use the HP for mixing and music.   I need help picking out a Amp that can drive them while not adding too much color.  I need the Amp to be transparent and w/o hype.  

I researched last year and everyone was saying how well the bottlehead crack pairs w/ the 880's, but since it's been over a year, I figured there are better alternatives out there.

Peopple who say the DT-880 600ohm is boring are usually underpowering it.

990 will have more treble but it'll also have more bass. Which means the mids will be drowned out which is where the rhythm guitar and riffs are so I wouldn't recommend it for metal/rock.

Vocals are actually engaging and even hypnotic at times, whereas on the 250 I would call them an afterthought. I have an EQ to give the bass more punch as well. They're capable of more EQing than the 250, I will say that.

 

I am really starting to warm up to these. Oh, and I definitely notice how the Lyr puts a warmer signature on them, compared to the E17 and the 250 being a bit more analytical. I like it with the Lyr. Noticing a bit of ear fatigue though. Not used to that with the HD650s... I can wear those all night long and be fine if I take them off for a bit every hour or so. The clamp seems to be more than I remembered from the 250 Premiums. I will just put them on a pillow. Ooh and I can try them with the black DT990 pads I have.

I run my 250 ohm through my Hm-601 [it has a warm NOS DAC chip <3] and then through my Indeed G3 tube for some seriously smexy mids <3 <3, and for portable my cMoy makes for lush mids

but yea the Dt 880 is a GREAT can in 250... sounds like even MORE ear smexy in 600 ohm :D still planning to get one of these ^^, b4 I hit up the $700 HE-500 e.e

Until someone makes a planar headphone that's as comfortable as the DT880s/HD650s, I won't be buying any more. The HE400 was too uncomfortable for me to listen to for more than 30 minutes. Don't always assume the most logical upgrade is planar. They are very heavy and clampy. Some people can wear them for hours but I definitely was not one of those people.

Still I've worn more uncomfortable cans b4, when I was younger I'm sure I can manage

Wow, I'm really coming to love these headphones. They constantly amaze me. I got my Custom One Pros back from Beyer today and I listened to them for about 45 minutes before deciding I just didn't want to listen to something that... flawed tonight, when I knew my beautiful DT880 was right there, waiting for me. I remember now why I loved my 250ohm, and these are just better in every way. The treble is just so fantastic and it's not too fatiguing. The bass is proportionate, almost always satisfying, save for rap. The mids are always there, fully defined and breathtaking at times. I love how balanced these headphones are. Not to mention comfortable  This song is absolutely incredible on them. You will thank me later.

So the great price ($242 - new in box) from Amazon came in today.  Yes, that's right, ordered 600 ohm, clearly marked 32 ohm on the box.  Back, yet again.  They are replacing them for the same price.  I'm willing to play the game as long as they are ..........
 

Holy crap!  I must admit, it's been a while (couple of years actually) since I've checked out Head-Fi.  I just didn't really feel lead here since I was pretty much all set headphone wise. 

Well, I just checked in, looking for IEMs, and was really pleasantly surprised to find this thread!

I've had my DT-880 600 Ohm Manufakturs for a few years now.  In fact, it was the purchase of these cans that lead me to stop flailing about so much, and therefore stop coming here so often...

It really is gratifying to see so  many other people love my favorite cans!
