It happened to me also. Bought mine from Amazon for about $250. It should be a 600 ohm version, also. I got a 32 ohm version. They were returned and I got my money back. I ordered another pair but from bhphotovideo.com.

Amazon emailed me a return sticker, no problem. The 32 ohm version sounded so crappy to me though, that I'm reconsidering ordering the 600 ohm version. Is there a LARGE difference between the two?

I ordered the 600 ohm twice from amazon warehouse. They sent 32 ohm twice. Gave up and ordered, through amazon, from another provider. Got 600 ohm. Hallelujah!
I think the 600 ohm is an improvement. Large? Tough question. You should try because with amazon there's no downside except waiting.
BTW, prior to that I ordered the 990 600 ohm from amazon warehouse and that's what they sent. So I assumed .... Silly me.

The sound is different but not as much as some will claim, but it is there. The 600 and 250 is more pleasent and has better controll of the bass and highs atleast. The difference between the 32 and 250 is much bigger than 250 and 600. Still this is my words on it and ofc all have differents opinions.
The + with the 32 ohm is again that you can use it more easy with mobile and gaming sources.

The 990 had the sub-bass I was looking for but the mid-bass interfered with it resulting in just too much bass overall. For me, that is.

+1. If you are going to most the time have them paired with a high end amp get the 250 or 600 Ohm otherwise the 32ohm is a fantastic choice, too. It's a pretty good article comparing the 32, 250, and 600 ohm version (link below)

Thanks for that but I meant the actual physical differences. Like, how do you identify the different models? The Pro is clearly marked, but there doesn't seem to be any markings on the 600ohm to identify it as such.

Does anyone here have experience hearing these 3 Beyerdynamics: ?
DT880 - 600
DT1350
T70 (not p)
I realize we're mixing semi-open, closed, etc. but which of these would I like the best .... if I'm striving for (amped) fairly neutral or slightly V shaped, deep unbloated bass, crisp, detailed but unfatiguing highs?

So after having a bit more time with these bad boys, I have a few observations to make.
- They sound great out of my E17 connected to my Nexus 4. They can definitely use more power if it's available but the E17 on 0dB gain does just fine between 50 and 60 volume, with the Nexus 4 at max.
- The imaging is addictive. Compared to my HD650 these things actually tell you where stuff is, whereas the HD650 is just good at left-center-right imaging. The DT880 is much more 3D.
- They are quick. There are some parts of songs that feel just a tad blurry on the HD650 after hearing them on the DT880, transitions and stuff like that. Obviously Infected Mushroom is much better on the DT880 because it's very fast and detailed music.
- Pianos sound fairly real on them. The HD650 has the upper hand but only slightly. I very much enjoy pianos on these headphones.
- I also enjoy the airy sound. My HD650 sounds thick, even a little flat, the day after listening to my DT880. Now this is normal, I know... it took me a day to warm up to the DT880. But after listening to the same songs and comparing them to how I remember them on the HD650, I've found some songs the DT880 is clearly better at, like Infected Mushroom. I try not to listen to 2 different pairs of headphones in the same day (with the exception of my KSC75s at work) because I think it takes away from the enjoyment of the sound and makes it more critical listening.
I still think the Lyr adds noticeable warmth to the DT880 sound. Vocals are so much better on the 600ohm than the 250ohm, and I noticed this without reading anyone saying the same thing; I have thrown out expectation bias as an explanation for the better sound. Vocals are actually enjoyable now, and not disappointing and distant like they were with the 250ohm. All in all, I'm pleasantly surprised by these. For a day or two, I was wondering if I made a mistake by buying them, like I thought they sounded good when I was coming from nothing, but after the HE400, HD600, and HD650, realized they weren't that good after all -- but they are! They're better at different things.
Glad to be able to enjoy these once again.

I've only heard the DT880 myself, but I've read that the T70, while accurate and crisp, is pretty lacking in bass. The DT1350 has a little better bass (from what I've read) but would be uncomfortable to wear for more than an hour or two. Portable headphones are no replacement for full size, home audio headphones. The DT880 is fairly neutral, has extended bass with a fair amount of punch and texture to it. The highs are nice and detailed, rarely fatiguing or shrill. The vocals/mids on them are actually not too bad either! Better on the 600ohm than the 250ohm, both of which I've heard.
I would personally recommend the DT880. Even with an E17 they sound pretty damn great. Give them more power and they'll get even better. My Lyr does a great job with them, giving them a tad bit of warmth (whereas the E17 and DT880/250 was a bit more on the cold side of neutral) but plenty of power. An O2 would probably do well with them, but definitely look around for synergy before pulling the trigger on any amp in particular. I wouldn't say my Lyr makes these sound as amazing as it does my HD650, but it is really great. Bonus: the DT880 is the cheapest. I got mine for $230 from a forum member, like new.
