Interesting! But I am pretty sure about what I heard in my system. That is reason why I did another round of comparison to make sure. And that was the most distinct difference to me.

One possible reason of the discrepancy may be that both of my 600 ohm are pretty new (less than 1 month. I did not record hours) and my 250 ohm are about 9 month old. How old is your 600 ohm?

I just found my DT880 sounding unbalance left, right. right side is noticeably louder....
The problem is I bought is from Headphone Solution, which doesn't seems to be the authorized dear!!! So what are my options? send it to byer-usa with credit card number? or any other shop that does repair good? help please!

Is yours Manufaktur edition or just regular 600Ohm? I got mine used, so I am sure they had plenty of hours logged on.

Measure impedance on both channels and return them to the retailer as defective with the description of the problem you may try to ask for exchange as well, unfortunately impedance mismatch on non-manufaktur 600Ohm Beyers is not unusual, I personally went through 3 600Ohm DT770 in a row from different retailers and all of them had some severe impedance mismatch between drivers. Beyer representative assured me that they will investigate the issue, somehow QC on that line was way down, besides impedance issue, one pair did not have dampening caps at all, another one had it on just one driver. Crazy.

My SE stock one is Manufaktur, which I described "crispy". Another recabled balanced one is regular 600 ohm one.

One thing I found about headphone is that they seems to be not only burn-in but also "worn-in" as hours accumulated. Old phone tends to sound smoother with "round edges".

I found that when I bought my 2nd pair of PX100. I was so surprised that my 1st pair (several years old) has changed so much from the new one. Certainly, more expensive phone will last much longer than PX100.

If the dealer stiffs you, by all means contact beyer usa in NY. They are wonderful people, very helpful, great to deal with. They have done repairs, exchanges, and other things for me.

The design of the PX100s supposedly did change from a copper->aluminum voice coil (I still have the original copper). A number of people on this board described the newer version as being a bit brighter.

I am really on the fence about 600 ohm beyers. Just how much high end do you lose? Do they sound like senns? Is an SS am enough to do them justice, or do you really need OTL?

Just to repeat myself : there is no loss of high end in 600 ohm. The only difference is better image, focus, and position. Maybe larger soundstage.

And the more I hear them the more I think balanced/recabled 600 ohm is the way to go: for additional power and enhanced pin-point accuracy.

Now my balanced DT880/600 get my 99.99% of head time. It just sounds so full and right. I have some CD that sound strange (soundstage issue) before now sounds great with balanced DT880/600. My interpretation is correctly interpreted sound field.

I'm in the same boat. Hopefully a few hundred dollars will materialize someday so that I can also get a moon-audio re-cable.

Anyway, I hope you succumb to the temptation/curiosity soon so that I can hear your impressions .

Forgot to mention it. I have DT880 all the way and SS amps have been serving me well. Just need to make sure the SS is a high quality one. GCHA with balanced input is good one. BTW, rumor has it that GCHA is in big discount now with back order. Check the GCHA thread. However, GCHA can take balanced input to amp DT880/600 easier.

Phoenix is excellent with DT880/600. And certainly you want to run it balanced.

I was wondering about this; for me it would mostly be about aesthetics. I think it was a good move for moon-audio to offer their discount. It sort of initiates the "well since I'm ordering a custom phone anyway" thought process...

I order the Manufactaur one from Beyerdynamic USA. Later I realized the change of sound is so significant with recabling (even the cheap one and SE). I regret that I didn't buy it at MoonAudio recabled (just to save the shipping). Sooner or later I'll send it for recabling.

My experience is actualy that recable alone has greater difference than going from SE to balanced. (This is with Phoenix. For some reason, I have never tried recabled SE with GCHA).

Thanks for your impressions. I would hope that there would be some audible difference given the cost. I've yet to experience the differences cables can make on a phone, so I can't even begin to weigh in on the debate.
