the best combo ive found so far is Lt1364 buffer and 2 x LME49720. i also tried 2 x LME49720 + stock buffer and it sounded ok but had weak mid/bass energy. Lt1364 buffer and 2 x LME49720 has good balance. thanks to everyone who contributed in the many threads about this card that helped me with my opamp decisions. i might try lm6172 as buffer later. anyone have any further suggestions on what to try? it seems like to me that the that most people prefer lm6172 or lt1364 as buffer the one thing i found that these two have in common is that they have a high power output 50mA+ having no transistors to power the outputs makes sense to me that the higher power opamps sound better but who knows im just guessing.

To each his own. I've tried your combo before and I recall the sound was very tight/fast without being dry and it had a nice large soundstage (not as large as 3xLME49720, but more accurate imaging than the LME). They also didn't have any harshness and their treble performance in general was very good. But...and there's always a but, the bass extension took a hit. They didn't have the warmth or bass extension of the other opamps. The difference wasn't night and day but enough to be a hindrance for me. That's where I felt the LT1364/1361 fell short (1364 was the better of the two).

As Bojamijams mentioned, I'm one of the ones who has settled ultimately on 3xLME49720 after trying a lot of different combination of opamps. I'm glad you found your preferred combo though.

Edit: Btw Ranyuncho, it would help if you listed what gear you're using the soundcard with. I felt bass light opamps suited the DT990 more than the HD650 for example, so the headphones/speakers you use/test these opamps with is, ofcourse, important.

your right i remember when had the senn 650 way too much bass for me so i got rid of them and got the stereophile recommended 701's and never was to happy with those anyway finally got the sony sa5000 and one thing is for sure they are by far and away way more comfortable than either the akg or senn.

currently using asus stx - md head mk3 - sony mdr sa-5000
